davidmccracken 2 Posted May 26, 2005 Meat, blood and flowers. Not for the squeamish! Feedback appreciated. Link to comment
ellie designs 0 Posted May 26, 2005 Good capture. This reminded me of Sue Coe's work, different idea/feeling though. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 27, 2005 Although it's not too appetizing, this is a great photo. I love the teal color repeated in the buckets and the apron. As a matter of fact, I like the way the photo is nearly split in two with the top in red adn the bottom in blue/green. I also like the strange juxtopositon of the girl with flowers standing in front of this retched (yet common in Hong Kong?)scene, seemingly unaffected. I simply can't get over the shirtless butcher. Although it's hardly worth mentioning, It might have been nice to have the girls feet in the frame. This is turning into quite an interesting series David. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted May 27, 2005 E, I haven't seen Sue Cook's work yet. I will try to check it out soon. Thanks for pointing me in that direction and thanks for taking the time to comment. Laurie, The feet missing from the girl in the photo annoy the hell out of me. I should have stayed around to take another shot but it was a very dull day and the shutter speed was very long. You may even see some movement in the butcher. These street scenes are interesting but not the most aesthetic as you point out. Again, thanks for taking the time. Link to comment
eimages 0 Posted May 28, 2005 You know, I grow up eating meats purchased from places like this in Hong Kong. I don't think it affected my health one bit. I now find shopping for meats at the super markets in the US a bit sterile. I think the markets in Hong Kong make me appreciate the sacrifice of the animal more, espcailly when I can see the pig's head looking right at you when purching the meat at the butcher. Nice shot, good color, another right slice of Hong Kong. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted May 28, 2005 The documentary feel of this image is more important than the image as a photograph. For what it is worth, I don't have a problem with beef..... but chickens.... I can't stand chickens. It's the smell.... and they kill them while you wait! As always Alex, your comments are most welcome. I am glad (I think) that this reminds you of Hong Kong. We are sure to meet again. Thanks. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted June 1, 2005 Interesting shot, David! I miss the feet, too, but it's still a strong composition. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted June 3, 2005 Kim, What can I say? The next time I take this street scene I will pay more attention to the feet. Wilson, Like I say, meat is not a problem. I am just surprised I still eat chickens! Thank you both! Link to comment
