jayme 0 Posted May 25, 2005 I know this isn't very original, but he was not very cooperative and his expression here gives one the clue about his mood! No nap. He is very obstinent, exactly like his father, our son! Link to comment
kariann 0 Posted May 25, 2005 I love his face in this one, I'm not sure what I think of the car, or maybe the angle. I like the tones, though. I do like it better than the other one I saw of this little boy, however. Kari Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted May 25, 2005 I would crop it so that only the boy and the wheel were visible. The car is underexposed and out of focus, partially.. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted May 25, 2005 hi jayme, i agree, crop tighter. the car is much less interesting than he is, and his expression is worth bringing closer. Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted May 26, 2005 Maybe it is the end of a long and tiring shift. Protecting and servin ain't all fun as my policeman son will verify. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted May 26, 2005 I agree with the crop, but my son wanted all the car. So..... the crop stays as is. As I said, he was not that cooperative, no nap! :) But it was a nice to test shoot in the new studio. As far as the car being underexposed, not so. It is black, it's totally exposed correctly. As far as out of focus, humm... when shoting at F8, I did focus on the kid, it did make the wording on the car a little blurry, but I can sharpen the car a bit and make it totally in focus, I tried this, but I didn't like the attention it brought to the car. So I left it as is. I purposely darkened the car, in the original to keep from being as distracting as possible. I wanted the car to lead you to the child. I wasn't real happy with the center orientation, but you get what you can get. :) Thanks all for the comments and suggestions. I agree with most. Here's the original, no manipulation, right out of the camera. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted May 26, 2005 Here's a crop as suggested, I admit, I like it better myself, but my kids did not. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted May 26, 2005 give the client what he wants and sneak us the other one! btw, i think maybe keeping the star would be worth keeping in a tighter crop. don't worry, we'll drive you crazy before he will if you let us . . . Link to comment
maurik 0 Posted May 26, 2005 Hi Jayme, For what you are trying to show, I actually think that the expression on his face is absolutely marvelous! I like the cropped color version better than the original you posted, so I guess I agree with the above comments (and not your "client"). Personally, I am not a fan of the studio backdrop. This photo would be really funny if you could paste something like a doughnut shop in the background. If not, I think it would be improved with just a strip of road as background to get a more natural photo. Link to comment
alexandra rauh 0 Posted May 26, 2005 That is a great expression, and so well photographed, the angle of the car leading towards him, powerful boy. Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted May 27, 2005 Wow, Jayme. The composition and texture and choice of color is really really right on target. What parent wouldn't hire you? Link to comment
bens 0 Posted May 27, 2005 i'd never hire her. my kids wouldn't let me take pictures of them again! Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted May 27, 2005 So glad you're doing well with the new studio! Hey, he's too cute so I can't help but try to improvise. Hope you don't mind. ^_^ Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted May 27, 2005 ...and you think I might be crazy to suggest another tilted portrait. You toning and lighting are dialed in, that's for sure! Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted June 3, 2005 LOVE this! I can imagine him being tough enough to pull over drunk drivers!! :-) Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted June 3, 2005 Wilson :)! I love the tilt and motion blur. It makes him look more like his father as he drives around on 2 wheels most times. The only thing missing is a DEER! We call our son the "deer magnet". He's luckily escaped, without injury, several deer accidents. One could have been disasterous if not for a bystander driver who stopped to help. :( While Bambi is cute, he looks less cute on the hood of you car or lying in your from seat after crashing through your windshield). I've changed my mind about "deer season". I'm all for it. I just close my eyes as I pass the local processing butcher during deer season. Link to comment
