g2imaging 0 Posted May 25, 2005 Runner ruled safe as second baseman Iguchi was not in the vacinity of the bag when making the pivot. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted May 25, 2005 i'm sorry, i can't understand what you find interesting about this shot. the phantom tag is not at all apparent. Link to comment
g2imaging 0 Posted May 26, 2005 Apparently you know nothing about baseball. The defender must tag the bag before throwing the ball. Iguchi did not, an error and the runner is safe. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted May 26, 2005 apparently you are quick to insult. i know more about baseball than photography, but even then, it is quite apparent that this photo does not convey what you hoped for. perhaps if you had clicked a little earlier his footwork, or the ball being received by him away from the bag as the runner approached would have helped. the emphasis here is on the ball having been thrown, not the fielder's placement on the field. he is too far away to have a relationship to the bag. without your title, i would doubt that 1 in 10 would understand what you are trying to get across. oh, that's 1 in 10 of people who know about baseball. go giants! i would also mention now that its too fuzzy a picture to be compelling regardless, and not up to some of your other, excellent efforts. but if i were you i would not take up writing any time soon. even with this, you are better with a camera. btw, vin scully was on the radio up here this morning. irony of ironies, he grew up within a walk to the polo grounds and was a die hard giants fan with mel ott as his hero. funny how mel used to lift his leg, huh? g2imaging 0 Posted May 27, 2005 I can appreciate your baseball assesment... Thanks for clarifying it. BTW... how many times have you seen a DP attempt by a fielder where the second baseman was "in the vacinity" and the runner was called safe as was this play? P.S. My writing and images have been published professionally (Sailing Magazine). Link to comment
bens 0 Posted May 27, 2005 hi gregory, for me, your picture of the guy at the racetrack was flat out brilliant. brilliant. so i am applying a tough standard. keep shooting and writing; its all subjective, and i vow to tell you what i really think out of respect for your considerable abilities. i have a small baseball folder in my portfolio, feel free take a look and let me know what you think whenever you'd like. see you at a game sometime!
