Martinique. Saint-Pierre et la Montagne pelee

The last eruption of this volcano, in 1905, destroyed all the town of

Saint-Pierre. Only one inhabitant was rescued, a prisonner which, in

the bottom of his cell, was protected from the toxic gaz spit by the

volcano. The town was entirely rebuilt and only some ruins of the

ancient town are conserved. The summit of the Montagne pelee is

almost continuously covered by clouds. When I took this panoramic it

was almost uncovered during the fiew seconds I took my five shots.

Beautiful colour and detail. It reminds me of some of the paintings made by the 18th century european exploers when they reached the Pacific.

I think this shot would almost have to be poster size to appreciate its full impact. Nice panorama Henri.
