mspanakis 0 Posted May 16, 2005 I like very much the roofs in the foreground. This is a nicely balanced composition. I guess you didn't play with the colours since the photo has an atmospheric blue dominance. Lisbon is (it is my impression) a yellow-green city and, here, the red roofs need to find they real colour (as close as possible). In the attachment I added yellow and red and increased the saturation of those colours, then increased the contrast, added some green and decreased the general saturation. Please don't take this as a 'lesson', it is only my personal impression from Lisbon. Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 17, 2005 Hi Manolis, thanks for the comment, and for the help! Actually I pressed autolevels on this one - please see attached the original. It was just as blue, but darker ... Your version looks just great!!! I will fix the colours and upload a better version, but tomorrow I have to finish an article. warm (sunny like in Lisbon) regards Maria Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 19, 2005 Manolis, I have just uploaded a picture with roofs you might like - the colour was OK even in the unmanipulated version, although autolevels seem to have removed some of the blue. It was one of my early favourites, for which reasons I have an A4 print of it :) thanks for looking, and for all the feedback and helpMaria Link to comment
mikespassion 0 Posted May 24, 2005 Hi Maria...I am interested to know what camera you use? regards Mike Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 24, 2005 Hi Mike, thanks for the question. It is described in the technical details - I did my best. Unfortunately is not working anymore since the 1st of May, in Vienna :( The curtain is blocked, so I guess I need a new one ... when I get my contract signed. I bought it used, and not thought that this means a shorter life span ... Regarding this photo - I will upload one in better colours soon, but had no time, and one more on Lisbon even sooner. Just tomorrow is again a day when I have to submit one more paper ... kind regards Maria Link to comment
maria 7 Posted May 24, 2005 I see that you cannot see everything in "My equipment". It is a SRL camera, an older DDR (German Democratic Republic) model. Unlike the Zenith, which had a textile curtain, and flexible, this one has a metal one. And it has a light measurer integrated into the lens, unlike the Zenith, where it was above, and so the risks of under- and overexposing were bigger. regards Maria Link to comment
mikespassion 0 Posted May 24, 2005 I can seee you really have a love for photography , more like a self expression? your photo's have a doncumented feel to them , I am no technical wizz and as we 'speak' I am studying the ins and outs of shutter speed / apertures! ...most of my photos are instinctive and learnt from what i read. maria 7 Posted May 25, 2005 Hi, thank you very much again for the help and the instructions. I could not find how to increase yellow, so I only increased red and green, contrast (16%) and then left autolevels work. Anyway, the roofs came closer to their real colour, I think; and the blue reflection in the foreground I find OK, after all, at such a blue sky ... The old image is attached for archiving purposes ;) sunny regards (today even here) Maria Link to comment
maria 7 Posted August 14, 2005 One of the last photos in Lisbon made 2004, but in November this year I am going there again (www.lisbon1755.org) :) regards Maria Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted August 14, 2005 Hello Maria, this a good, sharp shot. I had thought you may have used your Zenit for this as the image is quite sharp. I guess the Praktica shines when the sun comes out. I must go back to Lisbon one day, you make it look great. I'm glad to hear you have a contract coming up. Is it a post doc, where will it be? maria 7 Posted August 15, 2005 Hi, thanks for the comment. Right now I am reading about Portugal and found out that it is the country of the wine :) To answer your question: it is the equivalent of a postdoc, as it is a two years position for an experienced researcher (more than 4 years of research), but I don't have a doctorate ... (I submitted on the 19th of April 2004 and till today there are no referats, not positive, not negative - although I got told to work further two years on the thesis, financed privately, and even then it is not sure that there will be a positive referat ...). regards Maria Link to comment
