These are the best images of the moon I've been able to obtain so far, not having a

telescope. Comments are welcome, especially suggestions for improvement.

Wilson, I'm very pleased to receive compliments from you. I vacillated about dodging, finally deciding not to, partly since I already know I'm at the mercy of the viewer's gamma setting, and partly since the loss of detail in the highlights seems realistic to me. You may be right, though.

Jenny, I almost did that. I ended up thinking that three separate photos, viewed separately, was expecting too much of a visitor to my portfolio, and that this might have more impact, even though I had to shrink each image so much. I did at least make it wider than I've uploaded before. You might be right, too. ;-)

Merni, thanks, ma'am, you're too kind. But, considering how much joy you put in your shots, I'll take it with glee.

Richard, I consider you a master of shadows (sounds kinda sinister, put that way, eh?), so I'm quite happy you like this.

Overall, yeah, I'm OK with this one. I live in the Pacific Northwest, and could hardly believe my fortune to have several good opportunities in the same month to shoot the moon from my house, and that I've learned to get a decent image of the moon with the gear I have.

Nice idea to show the phases of the moon. I think they're a bit overexposed, certainly the right one.

Thanks. You're right, I'm still working on that exposure thing. I used to overexpose it much worse, at least ...

Don, I think it was good idea to put the 3 phases together, makes a very nice composition.Colors look like the dark/bright sides of th world. ( a bit overexposed but not a problem.) Pnina

Sorry, man, I don't think I can suggest anything, I am blown away with these shots. I have never been able to make anything even distantly resembling this.

One thing i don't like though is the blue frame.
