wingell 0 Posted May 12, 2005 Thanks, Mohammad. The animal is an alpaca, native to the Andes mountains of South America. I shot this photo on an alpaca farm in upstate New York. The fleece of alpacas is prized for making luxury garments--it's said to be "finer than cashmere" and "softer than silk." About 17,000 alpacas are being raised on farms in the U.S. now, according to--what else?--www.alpaca.com.
