pjmeade 12 Posted May 10, 2005 This was shot through an iron gate. 1.4 sec, f2.8, iso-400 and using a 15cm tripod. Constructive critisism is welcome. Link to comment
tom t 0 Posted May 10, 2005 I like this one best in your folder. Nice light, well exposed. I'm assuming you use a fairly comapct camera (not an SLR) given that this is shot at f2.8? It would be nice if you specify equipment. Compositionally I have one suggestion - it would have been nice to have a little more at the top of the shot; feels a bit claustrofobic upthere. I mean, a little more wall/ceiling please. Apart from that, well done! Tom Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted May 10, 2005 I used my Finepix 6900Z, which is SLR-like. The tripod is only 15cm, so I had placed it on the floor. The view upward was restricted by the iron gate through which I had to push the lens. Link to comment
bonnici 0 Posted May 10, 2005 good perspective, i wonder what it would have looked like if you hade been in line with the pillars what that would have looked like. Link to comment
dominiquedodge 0 Posted May 10, 2005 I'd prefer if there was someone walking across that floor, in silhouette. My camera is similar to yours, so I spot another problem with the shot: there are some dead pixels in it. The most noticeable are on the right bottom on the first dark columns (blue and green spots). These crop up when using a "slow" speed and can really be a nuisance. If you scroll all over your photo at 100% enlargement I recon you'll find lots more (they're easily cloned out using Photoshop, but it takes time). Link to comment
pjmeade 12 Posted May 10, 2005 Hello Dominique, thanks for looking. You are quite right about the dead pixels. As a rule I shoot at iso-100 and they don't show, but I used 400 for much of this weekend, for night time and indoor work. Some of the shots look like star fields. I will be more careful with the others I post. Once again, thanks for looking. Best wishes. Peter Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted May 11, 2005 Peter, this is an attractive shot. Nice colors, tones, and lighting. My only suggestion would have been to point the camera up higher: the ceiling is more interesting than the floor. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted May 11, 2005 Hello Peter. This is indeed a very special image, and reminds me very much of the paintings of the seventeenth century dutch realism movement, paticularly the work of Saenredam. Some of his best work, and some of yours! (He prefered the floor to the ceiling also!) Regards, Nick. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted May 12, 2005 Some details like the shadow of a fence to the right are quite interesting, as the shadows in the ceiling itself. I like the way one loses count of the arches while being "warped" into that door. I can only join the choir of people who would prefer more ceiling and less floor. As you've mentioned there was no way to get more ceiling... I would therefore propose you crop out part of the floor to give a new balance to the composition. Link to comment
