City places are mostly "stone" in Lisbon - little vegetation, this is why I called the picture ironically "pocket park". "Pocket parks" has actually been a concept for Barcelona, if I remember it right: a series of successful city places.

In the picture above even two such "pocket parks" are shown, with the one displayed in the main picture being the one in the middle, but more distant from the viewer.

Hi,

I have chosen an image of Lisbon, for which I have both the photo in

"eye-height" and the aerial one (see comment).

I am grateful on any comments and ratings, thank you!

Hi Guillermo,

thank you for the time to comment and rate.

I took a look and you have a great portofolio!

I think in February the weather was rather on my side to take photos in Southern Europe. In Spain I was in September and could not catch very aesthetically the shadows with my camera :(

kind regards

Maria

Maria, I very much like the way you present your photographs and the special meaning you give to them.

Thanks for this further comment also.

Writting text is much more my strength, than making photos ... But I try to do my best, and currently enjoy playing around with variants of my photos, associated photos etc, as you might have noticed from the comments ;)

Actually I miss the option on photo.net to upload two pictures one near the other, like it used to be in slide shows - even in the No Words thread it was one for which it would have been suitable (same picture in B&W and colour), but I could have thought of:

  • same place in spring and autumn
  • same place in winter and summer
  • same place from eye height and aerial
  • same place in photo and drawing
  • same place inverted and not
  • whole image and detail
etc...

Maria

Wow! What a great shot. The rich blues, the absolutely tack-sharp exposure, the not-overbearing sun and the sense of height elevate this (pun intended) well above the average.

I'd rather wish to get the water play of the fountain in more detail, clipping those plain benches at the right. So you'd stand some feet to the left, nearby the fountain. Think about it the next time in Lisboa, Maria :)

Yes, you are perfectly right.

Forgetting that after I was actually missing it, for example for this one (and I have 'day' and 'night' also for the detail shots of it).

Hi,

how did you know I will go a next time to Lissabon?

I hope I'll do, I've submitted an abstract for a conference in November this year, but the submission deadline did not pass yet, and the evaluation will need some time.

But I will also try to slightly change the subject of my next project so to include Portugal's early reinforced concrete buildings instead of those of Slovenia, as written in the proposal, since I read a book and saw that Cassiano Branco's buildings are like that. Then I will go there more times. But maybe I will not change. I'll see. Project is to start 15.06.2005, these are the latest news.

Very nice sky you got here Maria in this beautiful plaza called "Rossio". And of course it's my birth city I must love it :-) Looking forward to see more Lisboa pics from you. Regards

I stayed near Rossio last June. A few days before the Euro 2004 (sorry for reminding it to you ... :-). You live in a beautiful city!!!

If I tell you that I know of Portuguise guys who were happy hearing that I looked to the match, even if basically because after Germany left, the German media concentrated on praising Rehagel and thus loved the result?

Dear all,

I've just put a similar dialogue aerial vs eye level to my Salzburg cityscape - OK, that refers to the whole city, not just to a place, please feel free to visit and leave your oppinion.

Do I do too much crossreferencing? ;)

thanks and warm greetings

Maria

Hi Christian,

thanks for the comment (and for the rating).I hope to:

  1. go to Lisbon in November again
  2. get good light
In any case, it looks that if I'll write a photo guide, it should be on Lisbon. The scientist in charge for my future projects is actually Portuguise; maybe he helps me telling some usual expressions, for example; but maybe not - he seems not to be very interested in architecture, photography, travelling and so on, but more in engineering sciences ... well, that's what the project is about, actually.

I hoped that my Austria photos are as successful, after the good start with Salzburg; Vienna was actually as much white (buildings), but the light in April wasn't that white anymore. Strong light tends to destroy my photos :(

fond regards

Congratulations on your portfolio. I was born in Lisbon; I always lived near Rossio; I work a few meters from it..and I'm never tired or bored to look at it ! Nice colors and composition. When you have some time take a look at my "Abstract" folder and check out the floor... :)

Dear Mario, dear all,

I think I reach all those who liked the Lisbon photos if I comment on this one. Sadly since I started to upload the best first, I am running out, but I've just put one of the elevator Santa Justa, to request critique on it. I cropped away all the "contemporary" elements - luckily the top was still like turn-of-the-century, and converted to sepia accordingly.

Mario, I have visited your Abstract and your Lisbon folder - good work. Though I don't have any photos of pavements, I have uploaded this one with tile pattern. Enjoy!

Right, on my photo the pavement pattern isn't that visible ...

kind regards

Maria
