Tighter jeans would improve this image... still an excellent portrait, though, just the flatness across the back....

Perfect David. Just the hairs obstructing the lines of her profile. Of course, I could always send you my grandmother's formula ..

I question the orientation and the bigotry of the person who rates this 1/1.

That said, 99% of the credit must go to the model.

Cheers.

E Walker, I think your reference to tighter jeans is a little out of line. This is, after all, a photographic forum and not a model forum.

John, I would not argue with you but I will ask you 1 question. Does the hair spoiling her profile not make her look more innocent? Your comments are always welcome.

Rochelle, er.. em... Your comments have always been honest and (I thought) direct. However this is beyond what I expected of you..... but I cannot argue. Please give me a little more than 1%. Sure the model is what this photograph is about but if I wasn't so charming and charismatic, do you think I would have produced such a good result? Just teasing. The model is wonderful..... even though she is just 16.

Thanks everyone.

addendum for Rochelle

It seems the 1/1 has been removed. That is not to say someone else (or the same person) will not come back later.

David- I didn't mean that in an inappropriate way, and I understand that this is a photo (not model) forum... however, from a purely aesthetic standpoint, I feel the flatness of the material across the straightened leg interrupts the flow. I suppose I should have said something other than tighter... maybe better-fitting? I dunno, I still think it's a very nice portrait.

Maybe I was a bit harsh on you. However the model's age was always in my mind.

Respect and thanks!

PS. Rochelle's comment didn't help!

I think this is overall a well-done photo. I'm a little unsure about the background. Is it supposed to be ivory? If so, the background light looks a ittle hot. If it's supposed to be white, it would have helped to move the model further from the backdrop and blasted it a little more with even light. In addition, it seems there should be more light on the model's face; you're losing her eye. Perhaps a catchlight would work to give the image more life. Besides that, pose, wardrobe and skin tones are excellent. Thanks for posting!

Thanks for your honest critique. The background is light cream (ivory is close) and I would agree that it is a little hot in places. When photographing people I do tend to go for an even lighting. The reason for this is simple. When we look at people in the flesh the brain cuts out shadows and other irregularities in lighting. This does not happen when we look at photos. I like to think my photos of people are as we would see them. I understand this does not make for dramatic images. However, I do feel it shows people how they truly are.

For more dramatic images, I would look else where in my portfolio.

Thanks again.

David, I don't often pose my models very carefully and I agree with the natural approach that you refer to. Hair all over the place can be good too and I don't often agree with the "distracting" critic that people sometimes make, but I do take care not to interfere with the aesthetics. Here it takes away possibly from the pretty profile (very pretty) and it would take two moments to remove. By the way, I have been through Hong Kong 2 or 3 times (on the way to Thailand or Australia). Next time, I will look you up!

John, If I may. My feeling on your comment is this. I think you like this girl and because you do, you want the photograph to be perfect. I can understand that. Honestly, the hair spoiling the profile doesn't bother me. When I get to a decent computer I may remove the hair spoiling the profile and post it here for you.

Of course! I may be completely wrong in my assumption. I apologise for that if I am.

Your feedback and commentary are always most welcome. Thanks John.

Hello David.

A very beautiful and professional portrait. I love the way that you light these shots, and wonder what kind of lighting setup you use. The white background works with the subject well, and the pose is both sexy and demure!

Fantastic - 7/7!

Regards, Nick.

I particularly like this shot myself. As for the lighting it is just a heavily diffused and bounced flash to even things out. Too simple for some but good enough for me.... and you it would seem. Thanks a bunch!
