jeremy freeland 0 Posted May 4, 2005 I'd say your street photography is progressing in leaps and bounds. I like the composition here, with the strange intimacy between the two figures leaning in towards each other. I also like the horizontal lines in the background - especially how they reflect the same natural breaks as in the two figures: at knees, waists and shoulders. Very arresting shot (lame pun intended). Best, Jeremy. Link to comment
jenna_g 0 Posted May 4, 2005 Thanks Jeremy, Definitely working hard to improve my street stuff because I really enjoy doing it. On this one I heard a commotion and saw a crowd dispersing and policeman running so I knew something was happening. Turned out to be some sort of fight. I was fortunate enough to get one clear, close-up shot when the police parted the crowd to escort this man out. Link to comment
jenna_g 0 Posted May 5, 2005 I was out street shooting Sunday, and recorded this early evening scene. I welcome constructive comments. Link to comment
bexta 0 Posted May 5, 2005 Let me tell you jenna, I would HATE to be that guy on the right being tightly grasped by the intense staring cop. Nice emotional capture. Link to comment
dwayne_fuhlhage 0 Posted May 6, 2005 This is a great capture. It has multiple layers and leaves me wanting to know more about their story. I like the symetry, intimacy, energy and the interesting take on the predator prey relationship. Your engagement in the work and sense of timing is nice. I enjoyed your recent folder. You are developing a style unique to you. I am where you are with experimenting and exercising creativity. I use a Digital Rebel to jumpstart my work without worrying about film and processing cost. Anyway, nice street image. Keep wandering and shooting... Link to comment
jenna_g 0 Posted May 6, 2005 Rebecca: Yes it was a pretty tense moment! Dwayne: I took a couple of semi-obstructed shots and was lucky things opened up for a split second. Wish I would have captured more of the policeman's face, but you take what you can get in these situations. As for digital? Being relatively new to street shooting, it's really allowed me to make mistakes without getting too discouraged. I would have wasted so much film, especially early on, and I may have become discouraged and quit. I think over the past few months I've been getting really comfortable street shooting and the results have improved. Even doing a bit of film again. I like using both. Thanks again. Link to comment
donald_l_fackler_jr 0 Posted May 7, 2005 Ok, so I have looked at this shot 6 or seven times. I think it is a very powerful shot full of raw emotions. I want to feel sorry for the guy in handcuffs because of the facial expression you have captured. Great detail all the way down to the Tattoo. I think it is an excellent conversion to B&W. The only thing that is distracting from the photo is the blown Highlights by the policemans left knee. Agian I think this is a strong image and agree that it really tells a compelling story.
