A shot that might could be sellable i think, but

When the photolab scanned this, they exluded some of the water. A

reason could be that a cable was appearant, since it was shot at a

long range. I was planning to clone it out, but now im stuck with a

limited foreground, wich i may feel is to small... any thoughts.

I think the small piece of lake (fjord?) is fine.

I'm thinking the same thing you are - it needs more of that gorgeous red reflection ........ (-;

Is that doable ? ...... how much more would it add at the bottom if scanned to your liking ?

The lake makes this perfect. imo a little less zoom with more of the lake would be better, but anyway this is very good.

thanks for the inputs. Ken.. i would guess between 1/2 and 1 cm on the bottom. Wich would be gold. Was considering cropping more off the top, to balance it.. but would not work i think.

No don't crop the top - 2 wrongs don't make a right - lol - so I'm told ....... (-;

1/2 to 1 cm might make all the difference ..... so worth rescanning I think. A shame someone of your talent doesn't have more control over the scanning - I recall you were disappointed in a scanner you bought a year or so ago. I guess you still don't own one that you're pleased with - (-; ....

Maybe if make 3 things wrong...by cropping the sides too :-)...no.. u are right..there are drawbacks when u are not in control urself. Regarding scanner im still trying to decide if going digial, and therefore wait with a scanner.

Here is another example what happen when u have not control.. Scanned with epson 3200 and accepted. but it looks quite bleach :-), they probably used auto levels.

Atle,

I like this one. The subtle tones and shades gave it plenty of interesting features to view.

The bright colorful base is attracted the eyes to start from the bottom.

Good composition!

The composition is stunning, but for such a photo you should never accept less than the best from a scan, and it should be redone, probably at no charge. Any good lab should redo it without a fee if they see that they cropped it wrong. I watch lab techs use a giant Noritsu scanner frequently, and the lab techs who process on a slightly older semi-automatic scanner are always making scan decisions and they just aren't always the right decisions.

Their boss, who is a first-rate photographer and illustrator has trained them well, but some things just can't be instilled or trained -- they must either be acquired or sometimes they never will be, and lab operators also become bored -- some just don't care. A good lab boss will care, and if not you should take your business elsewhere.

I'd like to see this shot with more foreground and suggest it be resubmitted when you have the new scan; it's worthy of the attention.

(Let the lab know that you will be Photoshopping any imperfections out of your scans for future reference so you don't have this problem 'crop' up again.

I agree that the composition is stunning. I wouldn't want to lose anything off the sides, because the current crop shows the hills at the sides just beginning to flatten out, which I think is important to the sense of the dramatic steep walls on each side of the fjord(?), and because the flattening is reflected in the way the left hand hill meets the water. I'd love to see the shot with more foreground but, regardless, it's still a very strong shot. The simplicity of the golds, pinks and shadows is great, nicely set off by the way the tones of the sky brighten up towards the sun in the top right. Best, Jeremy.

John... regarding the scan its 4500 *3000 from a fuji device used in a regular lab. Its not like a high end drum scan and its relative cheap, therefore i in a way can forgive them (a consumer lab, not high end). This has not happen before, but they have done adjustments

on earlier scans, wich i didnt fancy and told them that i would adjust myself. Judging by the feedback on this shot, it might be worth a new scan. Jeremy.. i have taken a small portion off the left side,but this suggestion to crop the sides, wich i replied to ken, was just a part of a humoristic sequence between us. And as you pointed out, cropping the sides on this version would more or less ruin the composition. Thanks for the comments... seems like there will be a rescan ;-)

Atle, this is certainly a nice shot with some lovely lines but I too agree it needs that little more at the bottom for balance. I can't believe the lab decided to just crop part of the frame without your instructions to do so. Even if they are not a pro lab I would expect a free rescan, as this is their mistake.

A beautiful shot, Atle that does need that touch more on the bottom, as everyone is telling you. You knew that, though, at the time you took the shot and composed accordingly. The only other suggestion I have is to just burn the top of the yellow section of cloud in a little. Lovely shot.

Well I wondered from the thumbnail about the lack of fg which is explained your comments. I think that probably results in a photo of a different class, rather than one which lacks something. This way the majesty of the land is communicated - the land and light; reflections are only hinted at. I'd see this as a different take, rather than one that needs something more.
