Great photo! The polyps inspired this, huh? I sure get inspired by the photos I see on pn. I'm just an amateur playing around, having fun and wanting to learn. I think your comment is so appropriate also; I really hate getting 3's on a photo I like, but having no feedback to tell me why somebody hated my photo. These fungi appeal to me!

Photography like any other form of art is subjective. While one person may find a photograph very pleasing to look at, others may not see it the same way. It would be better if low ratings were required to have a follow up comment as to the reasnon behind the rating. All we can do at this point is except the rating and press on. When I get a low rating that does not have a follow up commet I don't pay much attention to it.

I know what you mean. It's fun to please people on pn, but not a big deal to me if I don't. I can still learn from lots of people on here. (and I still like my photos that got low ratings!) Well, back to work...

I saw this in one of the words/no words forums and so had to see your portfolio.

I like the composition on this. I think you could have used a bit more light from the bottom. I do like the highlighted tops, where you have retained some good detail. I think it could be a bit sharper, and this would bring out the detail even more I believe.

I have recently come across this way to convert to black and white, and find it an amusing read as well as helpfull Shay

I don't even think about the ratings any longer. They are really meaningless, unless, as you said, accompanied by an explanation by the rater.

MM,

Thank you for your very constructive comments on this photograph. The link is indeed a read worth the time.
