salvatore.mele 1 Posted April 26, 2005 This version in colours seem to work better for me. The overall composition is nice -of course for both shots- in that the water is framed, I almost think squeezed, between the left and right rock/food structures. The diagonal barreer to the water and the small object in the water testify, in both shots, how futile the resistence to the flow can be. Even though they get quite some relevance in the dark/bright arrangement of things in the frame, they are quite useless in arresting the water, just our glance. What I like here in the colour version is that the two reddish branches, which I almost lost in the BW shot, now seem to scream for attention... and this is a nice effect since they go one level further in having optical relevance but hydraulic uselessness Link to comment
dougityb 0 Posted April 27, 2005 I can't figure which one I like better. The red sticks that Salvatore mentions are just as he says: Screaming for attention, and somehow that works well in color. I like the black and white, too. I really appreciate the zig zag of lines, how geometric they are: some are parallel, some intersect, some are tangential. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted May 6, 2005 Dr. Mele, I like your last sentence: ". . .having optical relevance but hydraulic uselessness." Thanks for your thorough critique. For me there's some obvious relationships here: stationary/moving, water/rock, living/dead, light/dark. Like you, I liked the tight crop. Doug, you're right about that there's a lot going on here--stuff pointing every which way. In the end, I prefer this one in color. Link to comment
