Mike Marcotte 49,927 Posted April 23, 2005 Thank you Michael. That was exactly my intent. Link to comment
dberryhill 3 Posted April 23, 2005 Mike, I love this! It's one I want to look at and appreciate for a long time. The mood generated by the light and shadow and lines reflects your appreciation of the historical significance of this place. One of my favorite writers, James Agee, wrote words to the effect that great photography isn't about creating beauty, but about finding beauty and recording it accurately. You've done that here. raddatzphoto 0 Posted April 24, 2005 It's mesmerizing. Like what's going on dead center. Link to comment
apotheker 0 Posted April 24, 2005 Mike, I very much agree with the comment Doug made earlier. The composition is exceptional, as well as the emotional & visual tensions which are taking place within the image. Referring to another writer. "An essential American thing," wrote Gertrude Stein, "this sense of space of time and what is to be done with this space of time." You have done it. This is a classic. (Question... when I enlarge the image i see a small hair like artifact just off of the left side of the roof, something from a scan?, or a remnant of dodging the sky in PS?...just curious.) leslie cohelan 0 Posted April 24, 2005 Mike is this recent?...if it is you have come along way with that AE-1...beautiful light, a classic composition, clear and detailed...excellent image Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,927 Posted April 25, 2005 Thanks, I appreciate that. This is one of my favorites & was taken on slide film. It's been in my dresser drawer since last winter. I finally got a scanner that does a good job on slides. As for that little remnant on the left, I think it's a contrail. The sky was full of them that morning. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,927 Posted April 25, 2005 I think I took this back in January. That old AE-1 is still my favorite camera. Thanks for the look. Link to comment
apotheker 0 Posted April 25, 2005 hi mike, FYI. I was referring to a small black semi-circle (which looks like a hair) at a point directly above the left corner of the roof (where a rain gutter would be) & out to the left, at the level of the ridge, & only see it in the large image. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,927 Posted April 25, 2005 Yup. that's a hair. Dammit. Good thing you pointed that out. Link to comment
apotheker 0 Posted April 26, 2005 Sometimes I feel like I am being overly concerned or analytic regarding images I view. Sorry for the work related to this but thought you would want to know. There's no question for me that this image is worth it. all my best...g Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,927 Posted April 26, 2005 Thanks Gary, you probably saved me from myself as others here have done. 'ppreciate it. Link to comment
kentb2 0 Posted April 13, 2006 Striking image. Stark and lonely. All the elements that echo that...the single tree, the single pole, the flat horizon and every window covered. Powerful work Mike. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,927 Posted April 14, 2006 Thanks Kent. The City of Gilman has since bought this & moved it into town. [For a museum I think]. Maybe I got there just in time. Link to comment
