A black and white flower always stands out, probably without colour in the way the 'soul' appears :) Faced with a flower shot, I'm always in two minds if to waste the colour or not. Here, the frame/angle/composition is nice. Think I might prefer the back flower to be slightly more blurred or darkened a tad, but no big deal.

Audrey, I also would have liked the back flower more oof but it was too close to achieve that. The magnolia was well on its way in the blooming season and there weren't many fine specimens to choose from. I like b&w for flowers, but I have to confess the added incentive here was to hide the bruising these blooms often get in their last stages. Thankyou for your comment; your portfolio is a credit to you, with lots of inspiration.

Hanna, you've done well with this, ensuring that the main focal point is also the maximal point of contrast. Had you not, I feel the right side would attract to0o much attention for being relatively indistinct. But you didn't, so no worries.

I took a look at the histogram, and for printing purposes I would lift the highlight tones a bit. Careful use of the white point level and some fading would do the trick.

cheers,

Aaron

Linda, Lou Ann, Howard and Aaron, thanks for taking the time to stop and comment. Next time I hope to shoot this in real B&W.
