John Peri 1,007 Posted May 29, 2005 For me the purpose of a portrait is twofold. It is to capture a moment in time and reveal something about the personality of the subject. Sure as photographers we try to perfect certain details, but how ever many details we attend to, if the subject doesn't portray some feeling, the photo will remains unintersting. I opened this picture to look at it because I found the expression of the young lady captivating. Well beyond the beauty, I discovered a charming image, striking in it's portrayal of youthful optimism and generosity, with just a touch of defiance, which for me is one of woman's most precious and intriguing qualities. This photo tells a lot to me about it's subject and I very much enjoyed looking at it. Let's not get lost in the forest and learn to look at an image as a whole. In my view, the photographer went a long way to achieving what he aimed for. My rating for originality is not for the framing. It is for ability to penetrate into the secret world of the subject. atkphotoworks 0 Posted June 9, 2005 Beautiful capture Ken and I very much agree with John's assessment. My only quibble is the background and the balloons. However, as the caption sugggest (at 16), I take it this was a party or event related to her Sweet Sixteen and the balloons are part of that environment. The lighting works well here Ken and most importantly you really captured a wonderful smile. Link to comment
ken_thalheimer 3,739 Posted June 9, 2005 You are correct. That was the setting exactly, thus the title Link to comment
charles hartley 0 Posted July 12, 2005 This is my favorite of your portraits. It seems a very natural pose and smile for a very elegant model. It is symapathetic and honest at the time. Nice one. Link to comment
