An absolutely stunning sunset last night on Lake Ontario. The

gradient in the sky was so precise that I thought it would be

interesting to frame the image with a long piece of driftwood on the

beach to lead the eye into the corner where it would pick up the

colors. Your critiques are greatly appreciated.

Colours ar nice and so is the composition. The foreground is however a little unsharp and I find the trees in the upper left corner distracting. Overall a nice picture and with a little work can be improved upon.

PS.

You need to clean your sensor.

It isn't a scan. It's my nemesis: sensor dust. I was a bit cavalier about lens changes this week and let things get out of hand. I wasn't even planning on shooting that evening, but when I saw the sun setting there was no time to clean the sensor, so I'll have to do it in an editor. I'll try to clean up this image and update this entry.

Thank you to everyone for the comments!

EDIT: I have cloned out the dust spots and replaced the original image. Nothing else was changed.

Great shot. Would look even better with the forground cropped and the image squared off, but either way it looks great.

It all depends on what you want to emphasize :) I agree your square interpretation has a different, and also appealing look to it, but I wanted to emphasize the foreground more, and the longer transition of tones in the lake. I have a landscape shot that emphasizes the silhouetted trees and skies more, but haven't uploaded it yet. Thanks four your suggestion - I don't normally think about square formats and it was interesting to see.
