I like this a lot, and it is for sure quite original...I think it's the way you composed it.

First, I like the way the main subject almost pops out of the screen and is very real, the thumbnail almost making you think of a living human of strange complexion and some eye problems...but then the background statue immediately puts things in perspective and gives out the (intentional?) trompe-oeil.

Toning apart, was there some selective burning/dodging around the foreground statue? I am amazed by the way the shadows on the beard, the hairline and -most of all- below the eyebrows puts this to life.

Congrats. I'm dreaming shoting such a great B&W... For my eyes of beginner, it's just wonderful and perfect.

Bob, Your composition here is brilliant. As Salvatore pointed out, it seemed a live human from the thumbnail. The tones, texture, soft light are perfect. I wouldn't change a thing, including your title.

This is certainly NOT your typical tourist/travel shot. Well done!

Hope there is room in the boat with Salvatore and Laurie for me to jump in. Definitely, not a standard tourist shot (will have to give you an 'F' in tourist shots).

I also like your title but find the face more pensive than angry.

Salvatore, there wasn't much dodging and burning: just a bit at the top and on the left and right side. Bottom was the result of museum lighting.

Biliana, Yann, and Michelle, thanks for your nice comments.

Laurie and Knicki, thanks for your nice comments. Glad this goes somewhere past a nice tourist shot.

Maria, you don't like? I do run out of ideas, now and then. Forgive me, Ave Maria, full of grace, for I have sinned, but sinned unknowingly . . . Is this really that tired of an approach and subject matter?

yep. it's like shooting a deer which is already dead. nice tones tho. & i'm so graceless lately, heh.

Ducks in a pond? By the way, your photos are full of grace--I remember when you used to have a fine, large portfolio here.

yeah, ducks in the pond and an automatic rifle .... i remember we talked about split-tone some year ago or so -- you made this incredible landscape and I had my Magdalena shot up; oh well, i'm so taking off, my broom is ready :0)
