This picture was taken to show Yemeni women, their relationship to

male society and their proximity to abysm. Manuel.

This is really an eye-catching shot! I'm not normally very big on digital manipulation, but this could really be improved if the guy in the background weren't there (clone..), and maybe the same with the plastic bottle. Otherwise, this is really powerful and ominous. All the women are looking at him with obvious tension and suplication (word?) or deference, while he seems to be interested in anything but them... then, their position next to what looks to be such a dangerous spot... really a great capture!!

Jeff, I guess suplication is the right word. Anyway, it leaves it open for thinking and interpreting. I prefered not to clone anything, though I was heavily bothered by the plastic since the beginning. I will follow your advise. Manuel.

2nd thought on the women... the one near the middle almost appears to be readying herself to "attack" while the woman to her side appears to be holding her back with her hand or cautioning her or... the shot's simply full of possibilities.

 

p.s., how were you able to take this without incurring the wrath of their male escort?

Thanks for your comments. This shot was taken north of Yemen, near Saudi Arabia border, a mountanous area. Culture there is pretty open for photographers. Manuel.

Very interesting capture well composed. You document a sad situation (which, BTW, is not sanctionad in Quran in such a harsh manner) which we -those that have travelled or worked in the ME- have all witnessed to all degerees.
