salvatore.mele 1 Posted April 5, 2005 I like this view over the other, wider, you've posted. I think this composition gives more relevance to the architecturally closely knit village, with houses literally built on top of each other and on top of a narrow hill, mainly focussing on the essence of the half-ruined village itself. The other shot, conversely, gives a tad too much relevance to the village following the curve of the hill, and detracts from the small details such as the whiter stones framing the window, and the well tended trees and facades of the still inhabited houses. A detail I like in the composition of this shot is the location of that single tree all against the stone facade: it is almost incongrous that the only piece of nature clearly amidst the houses of the decaying village is actually well tended and basically a tamed piece of the nature which is eating up the village again. The sky was clearly terrible, but the composition of this has definitly saved the shot. Link to comment

robertbrown 1 Posted April 16, 2005 Daniel, Salvatore, and Jennifer, thanks for commenting. I agree this shot is much better than the other one of Vathia in this folder. The sky was mid-afternoon awful while we were there--not a great time to shoot. Salvatore, your point about the tree is an interesting one. Now when I look at this photo, it serves as the focal point. Link to comment
