john falkenstine 1 Posted April 2, 2005 Some rough dodging has been done here. The bird's back shows a clear manipulation transition line. The backside of the head also shows quite a bit of manipulation. The colors are nice and bright, but the manipulation to achieve the overall effect is too evident, making it look more like some photoshop exercise than a well exposed and composed photograph. dave_k1 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Amazing image in every way. This shows what a point and shoot is capable of when put in the right hands. Just Excellent....Looks like he wanted his picture taken. Link to comment

alecee 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Thanks for all the comments guys, I really appreciate it. John, you're absolutely right for pointing it out. But I did only some level adjustments, dodging and burning at the back of the head and wing to achieve a blurry effect similar to longer lens. However, we cannot dispute the fact that even a simple 3.3 mb camera I bought over 10 years ago can take clear sharp images good enough to be noticed. Link to comment
mealey 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Brilliant image ! He is one good looking bird and it looks like he knows it too! Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted April 3, 2005 Surprisingly brilliant capture with this camera. Magnificantly composed with beautiful colours. Lovely, wonderful 7/7 shot. Link to comment
john falkenstine 1 Posted April 3, 2005 Absolutely true Alex. One does NOT need the latest digital doodah all of the time. I still have a Kodak sub-1megapixel and under the right conditions, it takes some wonderful, soft photographs. If we look at the current image postings, it is clear that ALL of us, including myself are using the latest newfangled camera. Pressure, pressure...It could actually be fun in the future if photo.net would have some categories where folks could post digital images from the old clunkers (ahem) cameras from the late nineties and their limited technology... alecee 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Clive, Cherlyn, Sircar, my thanks for coming by. John, I am always amazed by your inimitable portrayal of old American lifestyle. Your passion is certainly inspiring. Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Damn Alec...A great job showing it's HOW you photograph...A pin hole camera in the right hands can be a great tool. This is really well done. Link to comment
srspears 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Beautiful. Even with the minor ps, the light is magical. Pray tell... where's the light source here? well done and a terrific use of the tools available to you. steph Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted April 3, 2005 Dennis, as usual you are too kind. Mario, Paula, my gracious thanks. Stephanie, the shadow on the beak show that the light is falling straight at the pelican. It was cloudy and lucky to have great soft light as evening is approaching. You wil notice I bend downwards to take this shot with the great looking clouds. Much better then the distracting ground and greenery. Link to comment
