cghubbell 0 Posted March 18, 2005 I've been stalking the purple finch for a while now, but this is the first time I've had decent lighting and a clear shot. They usually tuck themselves deep into the burning bushes or evergreens where it's too think to see them. I had about two seconds in this position before he flew off, and fortunately, my auto-focus didn't hunt this time. I think he felt sorry for me and gave a gift. As always, I appreciate thoughts and critiques. Link to comment
amanda mumma 0 Posted March 18, 2005 the only criticism is the brown blob in the upper right (I'd clone it out). Otherwise this is just stunning. Link to comment
cghubbell 0 Posted March 18, 2005 Thanks! I didn't even notice that bud. Tough to shoot in a burning bush without something getting too close to the depth of field. I agree completely and will definitely clone it out when I make the print master. Link to comment
daniel_benoit 0 Posted March 19, 2005 House and Purple finches. The house finches plumage is highly variable. Meaning it can be anywhere from bright red and more on the belly to dull yellow and less color on the belly etc etc. Notice the understreaking of the house finch. (lower one) Your photo here is a house finch along with the other in your portfolio. Link to comment
daniel_benoit 0 Posted March 19, 2005 My best way to tell them appart is by the females. The female purple finch has a rectangular looking patch on the side of her face. By the way I love the photos. Link to comment
cghubbell 0 Posted March 23, 2005 Thanks for the naming correction. I hadn't realized how close the two were, but now I see my error. I've updated the names - thanks! Link to comment
