cghubbell 0 Posted March 16, 2005 I'm really pleased with the detail in this image. These guys are very skittish, and this is by far the best portrait I've been able to create of a Downy. I welcome your thoughts and criticism... Link to comment
eric_dupin 0 Posted March 16, 2005 Very well done, the bird and also the background. Congratulations ! Link to comment
cappoldt 0 Posted March 19, 2005 Nice! You got in pretty close! The bokeh from the zoom is a little distracting in the lower-left as it whites out the whole corner, but that's a nit-pick. Want to bring 'em in really close? Push some peanut butter into a knothole and stake it out. I shot one today, but my flash didn't fire and it was too subdued to post. Posted one the other day, though - it's still up if you want to peek. I still have yet to photograph his mate, who too comes around daily for her peanut butter. Link to comment
cghubbell 0 Posted March 19, 2005 The peanut butter is a great idea, but I don't think I can get any closer. I shot this from about 6' so they'd have to be tame to do better. I use (surprise!) peanut butter suet cakes to lure in this one, and an elusive red-bellied woodpecker that I haven't been able to get a good shot of yet. Link to comment
cappoldt 0 Posted March 19, 2005 The red-bbbellies in my yard are skittish as hell. Still, I've managed a sot of the male and female - but they were so quick, I only managed to compose portraits before they were gone - no tail, legs, etc. Got Mr. Downy today - finally. Will post images now. Link to comment

jmconner 0 Posted April 6, 2005 Nice shot. Excellent color. I have a couple of females in my folder to go with this one. I agree that bottom left is distracting. Still 6/6 Link to comment
