Hey Aaron, I love the compositionn and texture of your picture, very nicely done, the very long shadow on the principal subject is interesting and the sky also seems very interesting. Congratulations! 6/6

I really like this image,I have been wanting to take some pics of some nearby bales myself and this makes want to even more.Curious as to where the lighting illuminating the bale is from?

Aaron, You certainly made it worth the wait! This photo is terrific! I love the diagonal created by the shadow of the hay bail. The other bails in the background help move the eye across the frame. The sky cooperated perfectly to keep this composition dynamic from edge to edge, corner to corner. The textures and tonal range are fabulous. The more subtle horizontal lines on the field are also bonuses. I like your other hay bail post nearly as well.

I agree with both Laurie and Paul's comments. While this is a "classic" shot, it very well done. Great moody sky. For me, the long shadow makes the shot. I also agree with Paul--a little something to the left might have provided a little more balance here.

I like the way all the objects, here, geometrically tend to complement each other. The foreground regular texture of small vertical lines into a horizontal linear pattern, is regular and gives a nice rythm to the scene. I then meet the logn shadow, again a line, but at an angle with the other lines, and almost parallel to the diagonal of the cloud front: quite pleasently arranged. The nicest of all is that following these lines I get into the regular shape of the bail but this circular regularity lasts little, an I find these strange shape in the bail that, alas, remind of some of the clouds just above: the circle is closed.

Geometry also tricks me. Bails like to roll, at least in my brain, so the slope of the horizon, natural I guess, makes me wonder what are the bails in the background doing: are they rolling to the right? I find this effect entartaining, as it almost breaks the staticity of the landscape after I've looked into all these geometrical details.

I don't agree with paul... I think the shadow makes a perfect element on the left. This shot is great! Stark, classic, and interesting. Good moody sky. This photo has much to hold the eye.

Salvatore, I can never fault you for merely glancing over a photograph. You've read this image probably as close as I intended it. Aren't those bales in the background interesting. They are on gentle hills and not completely balanced. If ever I needed a 4x5 camera this was the time!

I just want to say that I'm completely envious of your bio pic.

Well, not much I can say that hasn't already been said. I like the tilt, the tones, the light. Don't think it needs anything else. The thing the caught most of my attention was the squeezed shape in the middle of the bail. Its irregularity against the circle of the bail is interesting.
