Island Showers (Wakani Falls) Maui

vincetylor

www.hawaiianphotos.net/mauiphotos.htmAfter helping my son relocate to Maui last October, I decided to take a quick overnight trip down the Road to Hana. After a somewhat eventful-slippery hike down to the falls here, I shot several rolls at a variety of angles. Since I left my cable release at home, I used the timer feature to slow the shutter and fortunately did bring my tripod. As always your opinions are appreciated. Aloha. www.hawaiianphotos.netwww.hawaiianphotos.net/Kauaitours.htm

I believe I prefer this version posted because the viewer is taken

closer into the waterfalls here. However, I also like a wider view

taken quite a bit and will attach that as well. Any opinions you'd

like to offer comparing the two are welcomed... or whatever else

comes to mind. Many thanks.

Here is a full sized version of the same location shot much wider. I like both but value any opinions you care to share. Thanks.

Very, very beautiful, Vincent!! I think that the vertical version is much better in this case. As always - reach in details and perfectly exposed.

Rgds, allon.

I prefer this shot to the wider one. I'm not sure the plants on the left in the wide-angle add that much to the photo. Nice work on both.

Aloha VInce! The wider version is a great landscape shot, but this cropped version is stronger. It accentuates the "theme on three", so to say. Perhaps a little wider on the right so that those pools of light, created as the falls enter the stream, are allowed to fade off longer. I hope my rating sticks. Regards.

I appreciate your comments comparing the two images. I feel the same as you Walt, that the close-up is a bit stronger. In my mind it has a little more impact when I look on in. The wider version does seem to have a little more variety with the foliage and the rocks, however it lacks in impact when it comes to the actual waterfall itself. That is where the real strength is most important for this image, in my opinion. The first set of print proofs of this were outstanding by the way.

Here is a cheap digital image of another slide from this same shoot, with a person in the scene adding a little bit of scale. Thanks again for your time and thoughts.

Another superb shot from you thanks for sharing with us. Paradise places you have there. I like the superb colors and nice repetition of the whater. I belive that is more stiking on the portrait mode has more power and the water has a longer fall ..and being a waterfall must be on vertical position!1

clean 7.7 from me:)

This image works for me Vince. Great exposure and blaring Velvis color. Any thoughts to removing some of the blue hue in the water? I find it sometimes bothersome, but not really that bad here.

How long was the shutter open for? Aloha...

Shutter was perhaps for two seconds here Dave. Yes I noticed the blue hue, actually removed it at one point and then decided I really preferred it just as it was for now. Thanks Dave.

Superb Vincent...Near perfect execution of managing the dynamic range. I preferre the close up verion. I like the fact that highlights, shadows and the greener is well balance (each having more or less the same emphasize). I like the blue in the water, but perhaps a bit less would be my prefrence. 7/7

And the photograph is highly underated.

Excellent work, as always, Vincent. I don't ever come to your folder to critique ... but just to enjoy. I love how the water here glows with its motion. Regards!

Vincent, I have a very strong preference for the tighter shot. This image just glows; what strong colors! This is a superb shot of a waterfall.

From lava flows to waterfalls, gotta love HI! I like the original, vertical version as posted, Vincent. Road to Hana was awesome, at least for the driver. My kids were getting sick in the back seat, but had great time catching little fish at the fall. Thanks for bringing back a wonderful memory, brah. BTW, 2 second huh, hand-held? (just kiddin') ^_^

Astheticly, one of the finest waterfall shots I've ever seen! Lush colors, almost to the point of surrealism. I love it! The crisp blues and saturated greens come together for a visual feast! Outstanding!

Your comments are all appreciated. I believe every passenger that rides in the back seat on the Road to Hana gets some measure of car sickness Wilson. Is why I always drive.

It looks like all opinions favor the posted close-up version. I do appreciate the feedback. As for this being under-rated Jay, well that's what happens anytime you get (two) 2/2 ratings on an image early on. It's not a perfect world, and Photo.net is certainly no exception. Mahalos for all of your encouraging comments and for taking the time to visit. Aloha.

Hi Vincent.

I mostly appreciate the composition that gives perspective to the image. I really like the contrast between blues and greens, i don't feel they are too saturated even if the blue seems "electric"... i cannot say from my (limited) experience if blues have been saturated manually or that's just mothern nature's work... the latter case i would leave it as it is, the former case i would desaturate just a little. Greens are Ok and crisp. You make great shots, i hope to learn from you. regards
