robertbrown 1 Posted March 5, 2005 Comments, ratings appreciated on metal abstract--shot this just before sunset. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted March 5, 2005 I like a lot the way the pieces of metal are stitched together and how the difefrent angle of the light gives each of them a different tone. Even more so, I like the absence of any sense of scale and reference. In this respect, I think this would be ways more prowerful if you were to remove everything that is on the left hand side and concentrate on the irregular, stitched, lattice to the right. I might imagine a square crop, for instance. By the way, I wonder what this looked like in the original colours. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 5, 2005 Salvatore, here's the original scan of the b&w negative with just a bit of levels adjustment. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 6, 2005 What a terrific sculpture! The hard seemingly inflexible material, cut into geometric shapes has been assembled in a way to give it an organic shape. Like Salvatore, I like that your composition of this lacks a sense of scale or context. I prefer this toned vs. straight b&w. I think my preferred composition is the last one you posted (crop iii) It's most effective at drawing my eye to the organic, or slightly sensual curve. Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 6, 2005 Thanks, Laurie. Your keen eye is always appreciated. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted March 6, 2005 For abstraction, it is crop II. But crop III makes me also think of Metropolis... When I meant colours I meant, uh, colours... did you only shot this B&W? Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted March 7, 2005 Yes, it was shot on black and white film. The structure is plain metalic, so there wouldn't be much color. Link to comment
