martinforget 0 Posted March 2, 2005 This bird is not common in Quebec and it's cousin the Loggerhead Shrike has almost vanish. Your bird doesnt have white over the eye stripe and its beak seems to be all black. Makes me wonder if its not a Loggerhead or maybe you cought a juvenile. Are the 2 birds present in your country? daniel montero 0 Posted March 2, 2005 I made a mistake with the scientific name. The right one is now in the photo. Canary Islands are far away from Spain mainland and we have here an endemic sub-species.. Lanius excubitor koenigi (Harter, 1901). Some authors consider that the group in which the canarian Great Grey Shrike is included, must be an independient species as Lanius meridionalis (Snow and Perrins, 1998)...
