salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 26, 2005 That black spot to the bottom right is a tent. Climbers use to spend the nights on the glacier below the Aiguille du Midi, at 3500m/10000ft, before tackling some of the most beautiful -and visited- mountains of the planet. Adventure, risk, exposure... but at the same time extremely incongrous as the cable-car station (and restaurant) towers over them: a few minutes' ride from the valley of Chamonix, 2200m/7000ft, below. In this crop of a previous shot (same folder) I am trying to convey the smallness of the tent: in the Nature and in comparison to the other -invasive- man-made structures which although make the mountain closer do clutter it. Comments and criticism are much welcome. Link to comment
b_b21 0 Posted February 26, 2005 I'm not familiar with this particular mountain, but I find all the structures tilted to the left. I had to read your caption to realize that this was one picture of man and nature and how do they interact. And how most of the time we loose something spectacular for the sake of the crowds. Nice picture B. Link to comment
timurilenk 0 Posted February 26, 2005 Stark, alone - well juxtaposed. Good minimalist colour - white, brown, blue - complementary. Great job Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted February 28, 2005 breathtaking image in many ways. just some minor adjustments to mull: slight crop to clean the left edge so it not pull the eye from the right; shadow/highlight adjustment and selective color adjustment to neutrals. Link to comment
alex-m 0 Posted February 28, 2005 Stark view of the Aiguille. Sun from Italy and stormy clouds in France. Have to admit, I preferred Cosmique to the tent... (grins) Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted March 1, 2005 @HowardI'm currently on a poorly calibrated monitor, so I cannot appreciate the chromatic changes. I will doit in the next future. The original full-frame view, which I just cropped to get this shot, had a faithful reproduction of what I remember from up there. As for the crop, the aforementioned view also suggests what I removed to give more relevance to the tent. Two points are in order:The original shot did not really give enough relevance to the tent, too much to the side, even though I hoped the sheer rock face would lead the eye down there. Thence I decided to try this one.Your crop is better than mine. The snow pointing upward on the ridge leading to the Cosmic Spur (Eperon des Cosmiques) is detracting and indeed must go.@AlexRifugio Torino, across the glacier in Italy, is ways better! Excellent and plentiful food, rooms with bunks instead of 10-people beds, even scantly dressed tourists sunbathing on the easy chairs behind the cable-car arrival... Clearly, you've to factor in 4hr walk more to come to France, though. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted March 1, 2005 I like the contrast of the subject against the dark background. The texture of the subject is good enough but a little more would be also be welcomed. I can even see the texture of the snow.Nicely exposed. Link to comment
codepic 0 Posted March 2, 2005 What catches my eye is the high contrast with clear and saturated deep colors. This makes the photo exceptional.. Link to comment
gianpaolodettoma 0 Posted March 5, 2005 Very nice capture. Colors and composition are great. The building give a scale to the image. Link to comment
