Just plain awesome Dave..3 aspects really working well here. The blue seems the epitomy of the northern Pacific. no doubt a 7/7

Beautiful light illuminating this sky so majestically. Compositionally this is out of balance with a heavy weighting to the right side. Not a 7/7 despite those so gratuitously displayed...

This looks like two differnet scens pasted together...

The sun pattern is not reflected on the water and the light patterns on the water do not match that of the sky. The water looks gray as compare to the blue sky.

Neat technique, but it just doesn;t work for me...

I do appreciate your comments but I did want to let you know that this is not 2 images combined. I do not have an explanation for the odd lighting but I can explain some of what was happening. The sun is rising behind me. There is a mountain (called Sleeping Lady) on the far horizon (the one we are facing) and the sunlight is reflecting off of it. It is not blue sky but rather dark heavy overcast, which I believe the reflected sunlight, is refracting through from the far mountain. It only lasted for a short time. The sun had to have been at just the right angle to cause it. Hopes this helps

Thanks for your comments

Fantastic image. Folk are a bit too fast in there with those devastating criticisms. You fended well. Great work!

I stand corrected...

the color separation is strange, indeed...and the light has me still scratching my head...very interesting shot.

Nature always has some aces up Her sleaves... And as with a lady, it's always difficult to know, when she will produce them... Very good moment caught here... Jiri

Very attractive lighting condition, indeed. Was ND grad filter used?
Link to comment

No I did not use ND Grad filter. I used the 15mm Canon lens and it does accommodate filters. I shot this in raw and adjusted image in layers.

Thanks for your comments.
