Native American occupiers of the abandoned Alcatraz federal prison

island travel by boat between San Francisco and the island in 1970.

Indian Americans took over "the rock," as the infamous prison was

called, in November, 1969, in a protest aimed at establishing an

Indian cultural and educational center. The project lasted 19 months-

-until federal authorities removed the demonstrators. I spent a week

on the island in February, 1970, documenting the occupation for a

national interdenominational youth magazine. More photos will

follow. Your critiques and comments are always welcome. Thanks...Bill

I like the spontaneity and simplicity of the shot.

Most of the times great images are made of humple materials. This is not a great image but it is still quite interesting. Technically suffers from a boring white sky.
