robertbrown 1 Posted February 14, 2005 Comments, ratings appreciated on abstracted daffodil. I tried shooting these daffodils in many different ways. This is shot at very close range with macro lens and life-size converter. Link to comment
nicholasprice 0 Posted February 14, 2005 A wonderful, new and interresting way to see a familiar subject in a new light [literally]! - fantastic - 7/7. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 17, 2005 Very abstract - I like it. You would have a hard time guessing what this was without the title. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted February 17, 2005 You've got 3 line segments at the bottom. One is sharp, the 2 others are not. Still a nice photo as it is, but I'd like it better if all 3 were sharp. Regards. Link to comment
root 0 Posted February 18, 2005 Works for me. The single hard edge gives you a clear entry point, although having the hard edge carry across to the right edge could work as well. (Probably wasn't possible at such close quarters.) Link to comment
robertbrown 1 Posted February 18, 2005 Marc, Carl, Kim, Nicholas, thanks for all of your comments. This was shot very, very close (it's actually a miniature daffodil). In retrospect, I think this needed a little more DOF. Link to comment
yeung-seu yoon 0 Posted February 19, 2005 Robert, I appreciate very much your recent comments on my pictures. Your critique was balanced and fair. In return, I would like to say that I find this picture pleasant and interesting. I like the arrangements of shapes and lines, and subtle transitions of color. The one drawback I find is that flower close-ups, and especially diffused close-ups, are in such oversupply at photo.net, and in other places, that we are drowning and need a little respite from them unless they somehow break new ground, and this photo does not do that. Your pictures of animals, on the other hand, are compelling--I saw one the other day, and I admire it. Link to comment
root 0 Posted February 19, 2005 Brian mentioned in the sight feedback forum recently that he regretted having "originality" as a rating parameter, and I've seen several recent examples that support his view. It's used as an excuse for not liking an image, plain and simple. Flower shots are in overabundance and the closer you get, the more DOF becomes an aesthetic consideration. The originality in this image is it's simplicity and narrow tonal range which render it as an abstract in a way that very few others on this sight have attempted. Link to comment
salvatore.mele 1 Posted February 28, 2005 When looking at this I felt trapped and suffering from the lack of a focal point, from the lack of scale (didn't read the title in first instance), from my wandering through the frame... then I got that sharp edge, which put everithing into perspective and anchored my view: I like this abstract! dan_cr 0 Posted April 17, 2006 I like this shot. Very nice flowre pic. Very glowy. The fact nothing much is in focus is okay w/ me. Cheers. Link to comment
