mg 0 Posted February 15, 2005 I actually like this picture, although I rate it only "average". The problem for me is just the qulity of the scrint: grainy, and imo, too dark in the mids and shadows. But well composed and pleasant besides that. Regards. Link to comment
wakeforce 2 Posted February 15, 2005 Actually, the graininess was added in post-processing, I found it looked "fake" with the perfect "digital" gradations... Link to comment
donald_l_fackler_jr 0 Posted February 15, 2005 I like this shot. I find the grain helps to add mood and character to the photo. Being in B&W with the lighting that you captured it really looks like it was cold out. There is so much I like about this photo it is hard to pin down. I like the way it goes from light to darkness left to right and the shadow track layed down by the trees that cross the snowmobile track. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Why do you call it "digital gradation" ? Do you mean you used a left-right gradient ? If so, I thought it was a natural gradient generated by the actual contrast of the scene... Anyway, imo, it doesn't look "fake". And I would submit, generally speaking, that tonal problems ought to be solved by actions ON THE TONAL RANGE ITSELF, rather than addition of grain or other external means. This picture is nice, just let it be what it was - imo. Regards. Link to comment
wakeforce 2 Posted February 15, 2005 Well, I think I didn't express myself well... In fact, I think that giving a "film" look can sometimes give a good mood, at the place of the perfect, "bland" untextured areas of digital, if you understand what I mean... I'll make another version without the grain when I get the time... Link to comment
wakeforce 2 Posted February 16, 2005 Already got a few comments on this one, so I guess it must be interesting! Thanks for looking. Link to comment
aneely 0 Posted February 17, 2005 I like it with the film effect though you might try dialing the grain back just a tiny bit. Great shadows and good exposure control for shooting into the sun. Link to comment
robertpichler 0 Posted February 17, 2005 Great photograph! I think it might be even stronger with a little reduced "film-grain" effect (just a little bit), just my 2 cents. Kepp shooting and posting! Link to comment
alexhender 0 Posted June 25, 2005 Tres Tres belle image ! J'adore l'effet du soleil et l'utilisation de noir et blanc en condition de neige ajoute a l'ambience ou l'atmosphere ... Bravo ! Alex Link to comment
