stevespencer 0 Posted February 13, 2005 This is a great composition. Very moody. Bird looks so lonely. I like your choice of tone, and the vignetting of the edges. There is just the right amount of brightness and detail on the bird's face and upper body. Blurred background is just right, as is the position of the bird near the edge of the frame. -s Link to comment
marina-cano 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Spencer, please view large, I think there is no brightness. Thanks for your comment. Link to comment
mg 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Nice. I just feel the colors are a bit uneasy for the eye, and perhaps the top left branch above the head is a bit distracting. Regards. Link to comment
stevespencer 0 Posted February 14, 2005 What I meant was that the slightly higher values of the bird's face and upper body are very good - they draw the viewer's attention there. It appears that you 'burned' the edges, which also serves to draw the viewer's eye to the subject. That's a good thing. I was complimenting your shot. -s Link to comment
cappoldt 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Hi Marina! Replying to your question on your other post - It's certainly not that I don't like this photo, I just don't like it as much as your eagle! The placement of the bird is fine, though the colors are rather flat due to the lighting. These are very brilliantly-colored animals, and there's not much color here. This also reduces the sharpness. The branches do add a sense of a natural location, but some of them block the subject, and so are distracting. So again - it's not that I don't like this one, I just don't like it as much:) Hope it's okay to be honest. . . I assume that's why you put photos up for critique?Question for you - I assume as you've asked me "why I didn't like this" as you're tracking who rates your photos and makes what marks? Please note, then, that "4" is "average" and "5" is "good." No shame in that, Marina.I normally only comment if I rate a photo "below average," and did not rate this one as such. Though arguably, it could be improved, hence the explanation above. Link to comment
marina-cano 0 Posted February 15, 2005 I would be charmed with being able to answer you in my language. The first thing is thanks for your amiability in answering me. My question was seeking to know the critique that you do now of detailed form. This is what I wanted. I hope that you can excuse my language Again thanks for your kind response. Link to comment
cappoldt 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Marina, you're welcome:) I wish that I could honor you by answering in your language! Unfortunately, I studied French in school. . . I should have studied Spanish, without question! I love herons. In the summer, they are quite common in my area - I can't wait for their return. Would you like to see my favorite photo of them? It's on the cover of Arthur Morris' book, here. Link to comment
marina-cano 0 Posted February 15, 2005 Wonderful. That's really a great image. I speak about Arthur Morris' photo. Thanks Christopher, I like it very much. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted February 16, 2005 Maria, this one is different from other bird images due to all the branches in various depth-of-field. I agree with Christopher that these creatures are quite colorful in real life, but then again you almost entirely presenting this subject in a monochromic, sepia flavor, which I feel is quite tasteful as well. Perhaps transforming this entirely into sepia would further separate this, and therefore improve this image. Just a thought. I do like the composition, BTW. ^_^ Link to comment
kobrown 0 Posted January 22, 2006 For myself, on a purely emotional level, I find this photo to be heartbreakingly lovely. Art is not always meant to be precision, and beauty is often found mostly in the imperfections. Kathy Link to comment
