alecee 0 Posted February 13, 2005 During 1975, in just 3 years 8 months and 20 days, in excess of 1.7 million Cambodians died under the regime of Pol Pot and his crackpot cohorts. In Tuol Sleng alone, more than 17,000 people are believed to have been systematically imprisoned, interrogated, tortured and murdered by a group of sadistic captors, hell bent on extracting ficticious confessions to imaginary crimes, eventually devouring their own kind in a killing frenzy of freightening proportions. kslonaker 0 Posted February 13, 2005 A strong image. The room is so barren and not personal at all. I would like a touch more light on the man's face. Otherwise, the tones you have here work well - no blown out highlights and great detail in the floor and walls. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted February 13, 2005 Kim. The monk was visiting at that time and I took his image as a representation of compassion for the bad past from this place. I purposely made him a silhouette as I wanted to depict the stark nature of this place. It is rumoured that this prison is haunted. Notice the blood stains on the wall. Link to comment
atkphotoworks 0 Posted February 13, 2005 An eerie place no doubt. I think I would have liked the monk turning away altgoether from the camera. Nice tones and colour. A poignant and reflective shot. Link to comment

herbert fernandes 0 Posted February 14, 2005 Alex, thanks for the info tagged along with this pic.. it does feel very cold in this room althouh it has a warm colour and yes maybe if the monk had a more natural pose (looking away from the cam) it would have added to the coldness and mood. Great pic Link to comment

Guest Guest Posted February 19, 2005 Thankyou for the description Alec. Something I might not ever see on my travels....The faceless, slightly hunched figure serves this image well. Very original. Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted February 25, 2005 WOW! I just found this photo....I have been there-what a place...but with the faceless monk. Wonderful. 7/7 Link to comment
vietnam photo 0 Posted October 3, 2005 What a haunting photo. I kept coming back to this photo because of the faceless monk. Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted October 3, 2005 Thanks Tran. My daughter was actually a little taken aback when she turned around and was confronted by the silent monk in the room. Gave her the jitters! Especially when the guide was mentioning that the place is really haunted. Link to comment
