doctorbabaguy 0 Posted February 8, 2005 This was taken in Apache county, within Navajo Indian reservation. This area of Arizona and the adjoining areas in Utah, Colorado and New Mexico are some of the most rugged yet beautiful places on earth. The local indian tribes live in ragged villages and poverty-stricken towns. I found this couple huddled here, looking somewhat bewildered, conveying a sense of alienation as if in a foreign land and a foreign culture. Some would argue that I should have cropped the shopping cart and the little section of a garbage can out. But I desisted for two reasons: I noticed it when I rapidly focused and shot this but was unable to avoid these while keeping a balance. Second, I wanted to keep the little branch of the tree in the background to break up the severe urban lines. I could not do a crop without disturbing that balance. So, here it is with all its imperfections. Link to comment
nb 0 Posted February 9, 2005 Excellent image that compliments your beautiful portfolio. I don't see any imperfection here, I wouldn't crop a thing, everything that's there adds to the image from the edge of the wall on the right to the chair on the left and the line at the bottom that guides your eye to the couple. The expression on the couple's face alongwith all these lines, great! Your work shows your excellent sense of composition, light and mood. I am bookmarking you to come back to your work. arond a. 0 Posted October 19, 2005 Life is imperfect. There's no cropping your way out of it. I like this image the way it is, especially the sucessive planes--foreground, midground, & background. Plus the obvious geometry & visual impact. So many angles... In other words, nice, original composition. It conveys exactly what you intended, I think. Artfully so. Link to comment
