It looks as though he's standing on sandblasted glass. The cropping is nice, lifts the shot a bit.

Howard, I like the composition, side light (really accentuate front on the ground,) and gesture. Frankly, I'm quite surprised that you didn't turn this into a b&w highkey. ^_^

To be honest, I didn't think I was going to like this one from the thumbnail, but opened it up and was pleasantly surprised! I love the texture in it and the bird's expression. I would consider cloning out that dark bit above his head, though. Nice lighting, too!

It looks as though the bird is standing on granite not ice. The composition and the upward position of the bird's head is wonderful. I keep imagining some portion of a human shoe in the lower left. Wonderful exposure on a difficult suject!
