davidmccracken 2 Posted February 8, 2005 Taking a different slant on things. Life with a tilt! Feedback appreciated! Link to comment
doug_stanley 0 Posted February 8, 2005 I like the play on what's up and what's slanted. The trees are just dark enough that you have to look twice. The face on the bag draws your attention enough that you really start to believe the photographer is upright. Nice. Link to comment
peter_apostol 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Sort of a triangle going on here... The tree is wondering:"she's taking a pic of me and he's taking a pic of her taking a pic of me... is anybody taking a pic of him..should I? huh?". For this theme to work it has to be interesting and out of the ordinary, in the sense that you should be trying to express something from your female photographer subject or at least have a very interesting surrounding environment (you do have some interesting geometry in this photo). This here is just a snapshot: I mean -with all respect- you might like her or she might be your girlfriend -which is fine- but as a picture what does it tell the world? A woman taking a photo...Go to Disney and you'll see a million women taking photos. Probably everyone in the civilized world has a camera and takes photos...So what? What is important here is what this photo means to you! Show it to us, bring it out. Tell us photographically why is the subject special? It's fine to post such photos but they will not score high. Currently this photo says little. With a desire to help, Peter Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted February 8, 2005 It is interesting to read the first two comments on this picture. Doug, you get it! Peter, you don't! Peter, I am not here to explain my pictures unless someone has a specific question. Everything I want to express is in the picture, the title and my request for critique. If you don't get it, then I am sorry. Try reading Doug's comment above. It may help! That said, I do appreciate that you have taken quite some time to write what you have written and I really appreciate that. Thank you both! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 8, 2005 David, I think you've finally gotten the hang of this Photoshop thing! Of course with the title and knowing you, I half expected to see a tree with its limbs actually wrapped around a nude girl in a loving embrace, a Foster's in its' grip! Well done! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 8, 2005 David....You;ve got me all mixed up! (in a good way of course). I love your "slant" on the whole photographer shoots photographer thing. I love your model's bag and her pants. They're pretty cool! The only thing I question is the DOF. I'm not sure I wouldn't like the background either sharper or more oof-more a question than an comment. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted February 9, 2005 Owl, No PS here. The picture is straight out the camera. Why did you think it was PS'ed? Laurie, I think you are right. I would opt for less DoF. I am glad you like the rest of it though. Thank you both! Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 9, 2005 David, I thought the girl was laid over the wood scene. If the line of the background is really horizontal and the tree in the foreground is vertical, the model is leaning back to where she would fall over. Even more outstanding that this shot is not manipulated! You never cease to amaze me! Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted February 9, 2005 It's in the composition as they say. The tree is vertical and she is leaning back. The thing that is confusing you is her legs. In actual fact she is kneeling on the ground leaning back onto her feet. Hope this helps you understand it! Thanks as always. Link to comment
doug_stanley 0 Posted February 9, 2005 I've looked again and I still like the image. The contrast-darkness is just right to make your think the photographer is upright. Good work. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 9, 2005 David, as usual the simplest explanation is the correct one. As with your blurred photo of a pubic patch in colored water. You've done it again! Kudos Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted February 9, 2005 Doug, Please come back and visit as many times as you like. Owl, "as with your blurred photo of a pubic patch in colored water..." To which photo are you referring? Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 9, 2005 David, sorry I didn't remember the title of the photo and when I posted that comment I didn't have time to go back and look it up. The photo to which I'm referring is "The Drowning". That is a woman's pubic hair in a bath of colored water, isn't it? Or did I get that one wrong too? Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted February 10, 2005 Owl, I am afraid to say you got wrong. However, it is nice to know you looked. Link to comment
Mike Marcotte 49,875 Posted February 15, 2005 This photo actually makes me feel as if I'm losing my balance. Very creative David Nice going. Link to comment
davidmccracken 2 Posted February 16, 2005 Mike, This is one of my photos that I really like myself. The sense of balance (or lack of it) was something I wanted to hit home. Not everyone liked it, but I am glad that you did. Thanks! Link to comment
