Fresh Snow

sunapeephoto

Getting Ssnow to look like snow is always difficult. I opened one stop in the camera then adjusted levels and a touch of saturation. Saving for the web added a bit of magenta cast that is not on my printable file.

Ubaldo and Earl, thank you for commenting.

Ubaldo, I posted this because I love the snow on all the branches and it was the best of many "snow on branches" that I took that morning. The drawback to the scene is also its attraction to me and that is the confusion of all the branches.

Earl, this is actually a garden path and these are Lilac trees bending under the weight of the snow. I am afraid that I will have to wait until a late April or early May snowstorm to be able to add offsetting color, other than Sky blue or Pine green. I am toying with the idea of making this a black and white just to see how the extreme contrasts would look.

Although I like the colour version, converting to B&W, combined with a bit of selective dodging and burning, would render a pleasing result. May I add that I very much like fresh snow on branches as a subject - but not just yet. As you pointed out, I'd like to enjoy the warmer months for a bit longer... Cheers,

I like Pete's B/W rendering.

If I may add a comment, John, it'd be choosing a more aesthetically pleasing composition. A snow scene such as this can be shot from infinite angles so there has to be a better position, somewhere.
