afterthoughts 0 Posted February 6, 2005 Okay, I am forced to rate this a 7/7. I really think this image is thought provking where people, primarlity intellectual types, could discuss this image for hours. I would change the title to "Imprint of Man's Evolution". Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 6, 2005 I find it interesting that these are all different monkeys and three were taken at different times, but the eyes all have a similar haunted look to them. Have we evolved? I don't know... Thanks for visiting, Howard. Let's get some votes on titles. Link to comment
markboyer 0 Posted February 6, 2005 You could use a line from Bob Dylan: "You see you're just like me; I hope you're satisfied." Marveolus picture, Kim. You've been crossing some lines lately. It's very exciting. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 6, 2005 Thanks, Mark. I think this is the artist part of me that wanted to be a painter, but could never get what I saw in my mind to translate to canvas. Photography and Photoshop have given me some great tools. Hmmm...now I'm kind of leaning towards a new title "Just like me...". By the way, I just printed this out on watercolor paper - it's pretty cool seeing it large. Toned down the red and bumped up the contrast and brightness a bit. Reposted my original on here, too, to reflect more closely what the print copy looks like. Link to comment

kslonaker 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Thanks, Biliana. I have this one framed already and heading to my office wall today. :) Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Kim- this is really interesting to look at. The eyes all look like someone in deep thought. Wouldn't you like to know just for a second what they are thinking. I like the PS work, the lighting and large craquelure look is neat. Link to comment
w. roger keagle 0 Posted February 7, 2005 So....not happy with pushing the button and making nice pictures, how you have to haunt us with images that make us think ! Kim, you are such a pleasure to visit, Linda was saying the other day how nice it would be sit in a room with you and Ed, drink some of his home made wine, throw some fresh baked bread I would make, Fruits and cheese's in the mix, and chat for a while ! kslonaker 0 Posted February 8, 2005 Thanks, Jayme - the eyes are windows of the soul, I believe it, and these seem like haunted souls. Roger, we would like nothing better than to meet you and Linda and share food, wine, thoughts and photos. Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted February 8, 2005 Oh, wonderful! I would hang it on my wall too! Brillant, dear Kim!!!! Biliana Link to comment

bens 0 Posted February 8, 2005 kim, i love the way you challenge us all as your tastes and style evolve. this rendering has a sure, masterful hand behind it. my only question is the tight crop below and wider crop above -- i tend to want symmetry, so just a question. if photography is about visualizing emotion, and i think it often is, this is a photograph truly. it goes to the heart of why we pick up a camera and wonder how to get our stories across well late into the night, wonder how to serve others by communicating somehow what we feel when we look ourselves without saying a word. thanks for sharing it. kslonaker 0 Posted February 9, 2005 Ben, no particular reason why that placement - I plopped each face in a spot and tried it there. It's what I do with cropping, too - I try various croppings and then go with the one that strikes me as working the best. You probably would have done this differently because of liking symmetry, but I guess I preferred this combination because I wanted this to be more unsettling to view. I wasn't going for "pretty", but more to make people stop and think about the animals in the world. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted February 9, 2005 kim, you go girl -- thanks for the exchange of thoughts. this is a terribly effective work and my symmetry is often a knee-jerk sensibility and not the one that fits best. keep leading the way. i'm back in the brush here, but i appreciate you clearing a trail ahead nonetheless. kslonaker 0 Posted February 9, 2005 Ben, a lot of times I DO prefer everything well balanced - it depends on the subject, I guess. I'm not one to go by "rules"; I go by gut feeling on how it looks or how I think it will look when finished. Link to comment
bens 0 Posted February 9, 2005 i know what you mean. if i had rules i had to follow in this, my hobby, i'd pick up a book instead. btw, gotta say it again, this is so darn good . . . looking on a different monitor now, and i continue to shake my head in appreciation. there are very few works that i look at several times and continue to marvel at. this is one of them. bens 0 Posted February 10, 2005 thanks kim, that is very sweet, but (and i know this is weird) i display almost everything digitally. i don't think i've got a single print hanging anywhere! (i do give prints to others, but i more often post at dotphoto.com for people to order for themselves.) thank you though. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 10, 2005 Well, feel free to use it for a background then if you want. Link to comment
kristin_morales 0 Posted February 10, 2005 Kim! 7/7 This one is outstanding! love the eyes and the layering just fits perfectly....this one holds my attention. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted February 12, 2005 Different, haunting, and with emotion. Kudos to you for continually challenging yourself and therefore your viewers. The stares are very uncomforting, especially the top middle ape. May be because it looks like me the most. ^_^ Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted February 15, 2005 How did I miss this comment of yours, Wilson?! I think I'm on the top right. Link to comment
