chris_conrad 0 Posted February 3, 2005 I've been trying for some time this fall/winter to get a great reflection of Balanced Rock in Arches N.P.. It's much more difficult than I had originally thought as the best reflecting pools are on the back (shady) side of the formation. Then there's the issue of clouds--Great light with No clouds, or Poor Light with Great Clouds. This is a compromise between the options. cc Link to comment
suzannelaura 0 Posted February 3, 2005 What I like about it is the different shapes. The bush is circular, the rock vertical, the pond straight. It's a nice composition. Link to comment
dustinbise 0 Posted February 3, 2005 What would happen if you had moved three feet to the left? Link to comment
chris_conrad 0 Posted February 4, 2005 The reflection is lost 3 feet to the left unfortunately. Also, there were a couple road signs between myself and Balanced rock so I had to juggle obscuring them with angle and/or vegetation. Thanks for the comments. cc Link to comment
forrest_andrew 0 Posted February 4, 2005 first of all - nice shot. as you mentioned, a great sky would have been a nice addition. my main comment concerns the centered composition of the rock. IMHO i think an off-centre placement of the rock would have been preferable. off course this may not have helped with reflection possibilities. the central placement used in your 'Courthouse tower reflection' is stunning, i just don't feel it jiving with this image. definitely not boring, just not as great as some of your others. jimg 0 Posted February 10, 2005 I like the concept behind this but more work is needed to perfect it I'm afriad. You may have to bring a kiddie pool and fill it and then disguise it. LOL blasphemy and I'm only joking of course. This image seems too blue though across the board. Not sure if that is just due to the scan or if that is present in the original image. I think this could be improved compositionally with some cropping. As is it looks as though you have a great subject but average composition. Link to comment
