Pentax 400mm SMC Takumar, with Pentax 1.4x Extender, and Extension Tube #1. Exposure was 1/30th second at f8 with a Pentax AF500 off-camera fill flash. Bogen tripod. Inverted and adjusted Levels, Curves, Color, and USM in Photoshop CS in Ektaspace.

I can't decide between them. Both are very good. The colours of the birds work well with the background and the occasional berry.

i love the composition and colors, and it has a great sense of calm to it. i would like the bird's heads to be brighter in proportion to their bodies. i did a quick dodge, hope you don't mind, that's along the lines of what i thought when i saw it.

Very nice shot, indeed. I like this the best of the two. Very nice DOF and detail in the birds. Composition is great!

Hi Walter, I think the wider shot has more of a feeling of the birds being cold, with them smaller in the frame and the environment more predominant... this one is more of a nice bird portrait, the wider one is more of a 'story' for me. I like both.

I think this tighter crop allows you to see the birds and their expressions (if they have any) better. The other suffers from not having shallower depth of field.

These two birds, looking very grumpy....the title is appropriate. I love the DOF, and the gray tones to set them off. Very nice!
