Guest Guest Posted January 25, 2005 Nice photo. Good colors and well framed. The only issue that I noted is the limited depth of field. My experience has been that the aperture probably needs to be f11 minimum, easier said than done if there is not bright light. I don't have an insect guide on my desk but with all due respect, your yellow jacket looks like one of the many species of hover flies. Reference image below. Link to comment
gail 0 Posted January 25, 2005 I did a bit of research on the web after reading your comment. You are right, it's not a Yellowjacket but I think it's too big for a Hover Fly.The Wood Rose is approx 3" across, so this guy was about 1" (2.54 cm) end to end, my research on the web found that they are 3/8"-5/8" (1-1.5 cm).It looks like a Hover Fly though if it is one, it's a giant!
