allonkira 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Excellent comp. David!! you created a magical mood in this shot, very well done!! Cheers, allon. Link to comment
AaronFalkenberg 0 Posted January 22, 2005 I have to agree this is quite well done, though a little tight on the right. What made you decide to accept ratings? Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Thanks Allon and Arron. Arron I'm sure like most of us on this site, I am very conflicted over the ratings. The ratings from my perspective are rather meaningless so I often by-pass them altogether. Unfortunately, that means my exposure on this site is rather limited. If I had to guess this foray into the ratings game will be short-lived... Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted January 22, 2005 David, you have caught some magic in this shot. Superb brooding atmosphere. I'm not sure about the comment about the rhs as there does not seem to be an alternative without serious surgery. I'm happy with the composition as it is. Ratings : I agree this does open the door to the less thoughtful (!) but I find that overall for my pictures (not comparing with anyone else) they are reasonably consistent and quite a good way to assess a general response to an image. pnital 36 Posted January 23, 2005 David, it is realy a beautiful image, with a delicate atmospher, very skillfuly done. About ratings, I agree with Colin... even, I think that the real part has to be given to comments. Pnina Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted January 23, 2005 Hi, David, you have created a mystical image here with the fog and the diagonal posts. Great photo. Cheers, Sondra Link to comment
PeterKrenek 26 Posted January 23, 2005 Hello, David. I agree with previous critiquers that it is the atmosphere that makes this image. Everything is so calm, that you get the feeling that a moment must come when the silence and lack of movement will be broken. Even a fish touching the surface would make this a different picture. Best regards. Peter Link to comment
carsten_ranke 0 Posted January 23, 2005 The atmosphere you created here is really delicate, as Pnina said. Agree with Aaron on the right side, a tad more space there would not hurt. You know that I am for strong contrasts usually, but tones are absolutely perfect here for my taste. 7/7 Link to comment
bolti_ankheen 0 Posted January 23, 2005 Very Quite n Pleasant, Great Job David. Regards Link to comment
r_e 0 Posted January 24, 2005 CR: Is it real...? That situation is allowing us a short look "beyond". The angle is supporting the flowing harmony. The "concrete" corner right at the bottom is retrieving us to reality... RE Link to comment
cherlyn 1 Posted January 24, 2005 Suspension from reality, going into a dreamy world. Nice comcept & image. Link to comment
sef1664877429 0 Posted January 24, 2005 Definitly view large... very nice, I esp. like the 'answer' to the curve in the opposite shore by the varying height of the posts... ... of course, the potential for a B&W of this is obvious, prehaps too obvious, but I really couldn't resist, sorry! Does B&W change the calmness? Link to comment
manel_soria 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Really nice composition and mood. I wonder if a bit more space of sky on top would improve (?) Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Thank you all for commenting. For the record I agree with Aaron and Carsten about the tight crop on the right. It needs a little breathing space over there. For me this image is about tone and mood. I am very pleased this image resonated with folks. As to ratings, I remain totally unconvinced that they truely reflect a particular image's artistic merit. Ratings here are much more about the politics of self-interest and promotion. I'll take one thoughtful comment over any number of ratings. In that regards I am very fortunate to have some here at this site whose opinions and suggestions have helped me greatly...Regards Link to comment
mbalzan 0 Posted January 25, 2005 This is great, David. I really like the contrast you have achieved here. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 25, 2005 Oh yea I forgot to thank Stephen for his upload in B&W. I'd been thinking the same. Thanks... Link to comment
manel_soria 0 Posted January 26, 2005 David, just 2-3 more details: -To me it is not tight at the right as this sequence of objects (excuse my poor english vocabulary) that goes from left to the right is assumed (to me) to continue. However, IMHO, a bit more space on the top would improve the composition. -I prefer the colour version -Thanks again for the links you gave me. With better PS technique I have prepared a second version of the Prague photo, only slightly less grainy: http://www.photo.net/photodb/photo?photo_id=3043241 -I follow your advise and I don't pay too much attention to rates. And I almost never rate now. Regards. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Thanks Manel. To get more sky I would have had to choose less at the bottom which would have I think taken away from the image in two respects: the shadows of the posts and the murky submerged rocks, both of which add to the mood. As in life we can't have it all...Anyway I very much appreciate you comments and ideas. Thanks Manel Link to comment
davidorea 0 Posted January 27, 2005 Another winner in your portfolio, David. Beautiful composition with a very agreeable atmosphere. Nice toning and reflections. Link to comment
devanarhea1 0 Posted January 29, 2005 Hello David Robinson, my English is very bad, I am using the translator of google. I'm not a professional of the photography, only one amateur. I like your photo, specially the effect of the fog, and the reflections of the first plane. With respect to my photo, you can give your sincere opinion? Not I have so many friends in photo.net, and what my ears want to hear the sincere opinions of the people who see my images, to learn. Thanks Link to comment
photos of hans koot 0 Posted January 31, 2005 More relaxation to me David. The B&W seems to suit it even better, but that seems to be personal taste. Link to comment
david robinson 0 Posted February 1, 2005 Thank you David, Irene, and Hans. Your comments are most appreciated...Regards Link to comment
