Howard, this is a touching image. When photographing people, I find myself torn between a photo like this, that tells a story, and a facial closeup, which tells a different story. In this case, the spread of his legs, and the angle of his head, produce a feeling of sadness in me that a close-up could not. Rick

I agree with Rick's comment. The man's posture is what makes this one get to your heart. Upon viewing the larger version, I notice a little blur on the left side. I also find this is very slightly tilted down on the left - was it a hill or are my eyes really fooling me these days!?! Anyway, the overall composition I really like and find it very stirring.

Body language says it all... this man feel smaller than life. More than just a picture, this is a "slice of life".

Very well done.

This is a very thought-provoking image, Howard. Very interesting, to say the least. Homeless and overweight ... makes some of us middle-class & opinionated Americans think again. I may need to come back to this a few times....

The photo's message has already been well elaborated above. You're a pro at street! BTW, I think cropping out top 1/3 will strengthen this image further, maybe? I like the tonality and highlight/shadow detail in many of your latest uploads. ^_^

Interesting how a shot evokes different perceptions. I didn't see this guy as homeless at all - rather as waiting for a lift somewhere. Either way, it's brilliant!

Hi Howard!

You strike again,I can't believe the fact that you got rated with 4's for this one,it would be intresting to see if a color version would add more to this ,I think the wall behind the guy helps alot here by helping the eye concentrate on your subject(his size too),very nice.

Howard- I never connected the "prescription without diagnosis thing", very correct and a nice analogy I can relate too! I think this image works very well because of several things. First, his body positioning, head down, feet and hand placement, indicating to me, dispair. Next, the bright plaid neck warmer in contrast with the fence and textured block in the backround makes an eye opening contrast. I like that. Then his position in the frame, very well placed. Another one for the collection. Nice job
