I don't usual do portraits, but Duncan, my sister's Golden Retriever

is so exuberant, and this was a strong, but short lived pose. I

think some horses caught his attention for a split second.

Nice, but how about a slight crop, deeper shadows, deeper midtones, and slight increase in highlights... and a little golden toning?

I considered toning it, but thought it would be a bit cliche. Don't mind the crop, I would probably do it if I weren't sticking to dimensions with this one. The shadows are good where they are, though.

Agreed, this photo is excellent as is, and captures quite well a certain strength and...well...nobility with this dog. It's what instantly attracted me to the thumbnail over any of the other pet pics.

Aaron, I'm glad you posted this shot (I've seen it once before). You've captured a "real" moment here. I don't think there's anything else you need to do with this. The crop and toning seem just right to my eye. This is clearly a happy and confident dog!

It's been a while since I stopped by. This is so nice! Duncan looks majestic at this shot! :-) The tone is very suitable, and I don't fancy any darker/different. Have you seen Raisa & Trico?

Cheers! :-) Ivar

PS! I left a link from my home page www.BeamCatcher.com to you... home it's ok. if not...let me know and I'll remove it asap.

Aaron, great looking hound and terrific photo. You've captured its essence perfectly: strong, alert, and confident. Of course, I'm a little biased since I own a golden that could be this one's twin! I hope I can get a shot this good of my dog.

This is a classy portrait. my interest in photography doesn't extend much beyond landscapes, but this one really caught my eye. There is just so much character in this shot. beautifully done. 7/7.

Thanks for the comment on my cactus shot. there are countless photographers who can take aesthetically pleasing pictures, but an identifyable style is not nearly as common. by simply recognizing the picture as mine is the highest compliment for me. thanks again,

I am a dog lover first, photography nut second, so it's heartbraking for me that my every attempt at canine photography falls miserably. I admmit that portraits wouldn't be my thing, would prefer dogs in action, but this one goes beyond a silly portrait of a dog sitting in a basket or a scarf, probably because of the intense look and interest in the horses he was looking at, and the natural background.

I bet your sister must be very happy with this, for another option and make it a bit more "artsy" consider a treatment this guy applied to the horse

Nicely done.

Excellent gesture. Would it be useful though to pull back the sharpening or contrast just a tad? It looks a little hot to me. I am a big dog photo fan and have even written a book on the subject and I think the feel of this pose is fabulous.
