aepelbacher 0 Posted January 19, 2005 The look on this little guy's face constantly looks like one of surprise. I burned out the background (waaayyyy too much stuff there!) ... does it look fake? How can I avoid that? I chose to leave the image in color to show off the red hair. This is the younger of a pair of twins (the little brothers of the guy in many of my other child portraits). don_bullens 0 Posted January 19, 2005 The background needed a little cleaning and I sharpened it just a bit. What do you think? Link to comment
gabriella_lucia 0 Posted January 19, 2005 I love the expression and the colors are nice and lively. Link to comment
aepelbacher 0 Posted January 19, 2005 Thanks, guys! Don - I like what you did. I went back and forth about using the "despeckle" filter (I did end up using it) because the original was a bit splotchy ... but it then needed sharpening ... which seems counter productive. Hmmmm... Link to comment
afterthoughts 0 Posted January 19, 2005 Great shot! He looks totally surprised like he's saying, "Wow! What are you doing with that camera?" I love it. Link to comment
kslonaker 0 Posted January 19, 2005 Pretty cute, Lou Ann. Very expressive face on the little guy. Looking forward to seeing more of these. Link to comment
home page1 0 Posted January 19, 2005 This is a really nice portrait. The title is so appropriate! The thumbnail pops out and the full size image has a nice visual impact. Your choice of a black bg is a good one. Link to comment
wilsontsoi 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Nice one, Lou Ann. The black background is great as it makes the colors in the picture, "pop." Alternatively, I think it'll work in monochrome as well, with a bit of blur mask to mimic a classic look, perhaps? I've darken the doll to put emphasize on the child rather than the doll. ^_^ Link to comment
Guest Guest Posted January 20, 2005 Such a cute child. I think these candid expressions make these photos great to look at after sometime. The moment that you preserved will be there for the years to come and enjoyed not only by you but also the one you photographed... ^_^ Beautiful child and very natural expressions. Kind regards. aepelbacher 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Thanks for your version, Wils! I really went back and forth about removing the color. I knew it would look great in a monotone ... but I LOVE the red hair, too. The twins (fraternal) both have gorgeous red hair ... just like their father and grandfater, as well as many of the Aepelbachers. (I was adopted as an infant ... the only brunette of the bunch!) Thanks for playing with it ... your version looks great!! Link to comment
1000wordsphotography 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Nice job Lou Ann... this one is a keeper! Nice to see all the various versions as well. Link to comment
jayme 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Oh Lou Ann this is so cute! I wouldn't change a thing. I love the lighting too. The expression just goes without saying, it's wonderful! Nice job! Link to comment
sondra kick 0 Posted January 20, 2005 Hi Lou Ann, what a cutie; he sure looks surprised. I agree with Wilson, color is nice, but the sepia really makes the difference. Great shot, Sondra Link to comment
alecee 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Lovely expression. Priceless and the skin tones are great too. Link to comment
donnaalbers 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Lou Ann, he certainly does look surprised. Great expression. Both your version and the sepia version are really nice. . . I can see why you want to preserve the red hair. . . Link to comment
colin carron 58,916 Posted January 22, 2005 Great expression. Well caught. I like both colour and b&w too. And I think family photos are a significant form of photography and not to be regarded as somehow a lesser form of it as possibly suggested (snapshot) above. Photography democratised the painted portrait and they are certainly art. Though this is not exactly a Mona Lisa expression! :-) Link to comment
sarahunderhill 1 Posted January 22, 2005 A great expression caught here...oh and what a cutie he is. I like the color, because of his hair! Maybe get a real tight crop of this expression, try some different crops. Link to comment
kristin_morales 0 Posted January 23, 2005 Lou Ann....this one is fabulous! I like the expression, background, and most of all the red hair. You did well going black for the back ground. I have taken very few little boy photos ...could not have done any better myself. Also wanted to say thanks for your hearfelt comments and the time you have always taken to view others photos...uplifting and encouraging. Link to comment
jmcconnell2 0 Posted January 29, 2005 Think the red hair is great, also the facial expression you captured. Imo, the doll is a bit distracting, but this is still a "VERY GOOD" photo, 6/6 Link to comment
dennis jones 0 Posted February 4, 2005 Great capture. Might try a tighter crop. Color is right on. Link to comment
