I like the detail in the stairs the way it is. I'm not so sure about the lamp in the bottom of the frame though. I really love the lighting and how it seems to increase near the top of the stairs.

good idea and execution!

I like the curvilinear lines created by the stair case and I agree about the light dark ratio from bottom to the top. What I find interesting is the lamp pointing to the left into the negative space. It seems to suggest that there is more to look at, saying look over there. Having the exposure correct in the sky and clouds looks good with tha stair in silhuete. I think to me the most fascinating part is the top step looks like you can step through the blue part of the sky and walk on the clouds. It is kind of hard to tell if leaving out the detail in the stairs is a good or bad choice with out the comparison. As you have it I think it makes a strong composition.
