johncrosley 0 Posted January 17, 2005 This is the scene at a recent all-night restaurant in Santa Cruz, as a bearded man, head back, received a kiss on his neck from his woman/girl friend as their waiter served them (left). This is a 'street photo' so please rate accordingly. It also has been desaturated, although it originally was taken in color (as are all D70 photos). (If you rate harshly or very negatively, please submit a helpful and constructive comment/Please share your superior photographic knowledge to help improve my photography) Thanks! Enjoy! johncrosley 0 Posted January 17, 2005 Thank you. It's a little bit of an unusual photo, but it speaks to some universality in life . . . though such scenes as this are definitely not everyday . . . maybe I'm trying to say that we photographers often see scenes where we wish we had our cameras but don't -- well, I always have my camera in hand, and I saw her make her moves on him, and was prefocused, pre-zoomed, with my camera 'on', waiting for the moment. She never was aware of this photo's being taken, nor was the waiter, as I sat at the counter, camera in my lap, reading the newspaper and eating my eggs. Frankly, I posted this because I LIKE IT, but braced myself for very low ratings, but so far they've been fairly rewarding -- maybe I should trust my judgment more often (after four ratings). micheleberti 0 Posted January 17, 2005 striking! the scene (I mean.. the kiss scene) is great itself, but the thing which strike me the most and change totally the perspctive here is the man taking a glass of beer to the couple I guess. Without this would have been static. I do not know if that man entered into the frame accidentally or not, but it just works fine here to me. Well seen. Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted January 17, 2005 It was well past 2:00 a.m. California end of serving time for alcohol, and so what is in the waiter's hand is actually two glasses of water -- the couple had been drinking coffee, and the man either is passed out or he is sleeping (or both-- after all isn't 'passed out' kind of a form of alcohol-induced sleeping, but I didn't inquire and kept to myself and after taking this photo fell into taking photos of an amateur rodeo bull rider -- a wiry little guy who had my attention -- he had a great big hat and a very small frame (all hat and no cattle?) Oh, and there was more than one opportunity for such a photo, but I wanted the waiter in the picture and chose that moment to push the shutter. John Link to comment
blago 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Nice shot, John. Funny and difficult to take (the place looks almost empty and nobody is pleased to be shot in such an intimate moment). Of course, you should trust only your own judgment. I like your shot mainly because the kiss in unusual - on the neck of a bearded man. I'm sure you cannot find a similar kiss in the whole net. :-) What's more, the man looks so exhausted I'm starting to think it's a vampire kiss in the second phase - sucking the blood of the victim. "Vampire kiss" as a title? You said : "...and there was more than one opportunity for such a photo". Exactly. I'm offering you 3 more crops and I like all of them. They look like different photos to me. Regards. Blago Link to comment
blago 0 Posted January 21, 2005 Same, but deleting the waiter's head totally. Maybe, it's a little distracting. Link to comment
blago 0 Posted January 21, 2005 "Vampire kiss" or "Kiss of fire" (after Satchmo). :-) Link to comment
johncrosley 0 Posted January 22, 2005 Here I am in a strange land, looking at my images through a whole new pair of 'eyes' -- yours. It's nice to see how much the image has inspired you -- as I get only one change to press the shutter and post if I don't crop the photo -- as I prefer not to. But I like your crops -- all three of them -- and each shows an attention to my photo that is highly flattering; perhaps more flattering than some long-winded critique. And I take it as such. I hope to post some more 'original' things from different genres when I return. Thanks. John (Crosley) P.S. They each DO look like different photos! JC Link to comment
