City cranes

wakeforce

Stopped contributing to photo.net for a while but I tought I'd give another try. I liked this shot, but it lacked a bit of contrast, so I applied a pretty agressive curve to it... Unfortunately, it was 8 bit so I go some artifacts in the bottom left corner. Should've shot RAW!

I'll start out by saying what I like about this photo. I like the tone and I think the exposure is ok. At first I thought an IR shot that has been toned. I like the use of repeating and mirrored lines with an interesting use of cranes for a faux frame. It is a well thought out composition but for me everything pushes me out of the photo as there is nothing for my eyes to rest on. I am not good enough to give helpfull critiques and find myself confused by this image. I am compelled to look at it and follow all the lines but at the same time I am repelled by the photo too. This image causes me a lot of internal conflect as I like it and hate it. I want the crane out of the photo but the crane is what makes the photo. Sorry this is so long, I'll stop now.

I like the tone a lot. I like also the position of the cranes. But the fact that the front crane is being lost in the sky is a little of a turn off for me.

On another note, I hope you're back on PN for a while. Just leave the bad comming from it and enjoy the best as much as you can.

Love the composition here... love the smear of black smoke across the top third in contrast to the light sky. Everything here says "dirty and industrial". I like the way you have portrayed this theme.

Thanks for the critiques, I actually didn't think I'd get critiques like these =)

BTW, it's not smoke in the top third of the image, but is siply the sky seen in between the clouds! Since I put a digi red filter (channel mixer with 110% red and -10% blue), it became very dark.
